Imagine my surprise to learn from my daughter in
Dallas about an article in the Dallas Morning News about your rose garden. I live in Corrales and have a rose garden also. Yours is gorgeous! I could use some pointers on how to include other types of plants to enhance the existing garden. How did you do that?

I stumbled upon your site for the second time while re-discovering saved files on my computer. My pc was turned off for the better part of two years and I had saved your site to my favorites in March 2001 as "Rose_Passion Page". Since then, I have had your "black jade" rose as my desktop and now I am trilled to have found (or re-found) the origin of my black jade rose pic. Today I enjoyed looking at hundreds of flowers and roses on your site and reading your poignant robin family story. I am curious to know if you had a robin nest for a third year in a row? Thank you for the memories of beauty... I'm sharing your site with many others!

The "Our Deepest Fear" quote on the above page is a splendid one, and thank you for sharing it.
I thought you might be interested in knowing where it really came from. It is widely misattributed on the Web and elsewhere to Nelson Mandela's 1994 inaugural address. A quick search through that very speech (also full of splendid quotable prose) on the ANC's official web site confirms that the quotation isn't there (URL below). Nor is it to be found in any of his other published speeches. The actual author of the quotation is Marianne Williamson. To be precise, it is from her 1992 book, "Return to Love" (hardcover p. 165, paperback pp. 190-191): http://www.marianne.com/index.php Just to be extra sure that Mandela never quoted it in another speech, I wrote to the ANC (info@anc.org.za) asking about it, and their representative Duncan Harford confirmed my suspicions: --- begin include message --- From: "dharford" To: "J. Finlayson-Fife" Subject: Re: Our Deepest Fear Date: Tue, 20 Aug 2002 07:47:57 +0200 Hello John We are aware that these words have for some years now been attributed to Nelson Mandela on the internet. We do not know how this happened These words appear neither in the May 9, 1994 inaugural speech (http://www.anc.org.za/ancdocs/history/mandela/1994/inaugct.html), nor the May 10, 1994 inaugural speech (http://www.anc.org.za/ancdocs/history/mandela/1994/inaugpta.html), nor any of the other speeches, statements and writings by Mr. Mandela (http://www.anc.org.za/ancdocs/history/mandela/). Regards Duncan --- end included message --- Thanks for your attention, John

I thought that this web site was beautiful. I love the stories especially because they made me realize that there is life and that it is worth living. I myself have had problems just like every other person in this world. So I believe that if people would read and understand these stories and poems then they too will see that life is worth the time. So "HOLD ON" Thank you for doing this site and for the ideas and encouragement.

Elizabeth, your garden, art and photography are confirmation of my belief that gardening is just another art form. I have met more artists that are avid gardeners. Using God's beautiful creation to express our own creativity. I also love to photograph my gardens and then 'albumize' them in the cold days of winter. I just started with the Old Garden roses, and have achieved rebloom in one orchid so far, thanks for the inspiration.

Ann Peck told me you had a Banshee, so I looked to see if yours was different. I believe it is the same as my pink one. I have access to a white one too. I'm in Tennessee. I notice the one in the High Country catalog is different. I talked to the gardener at The Hermitage near Nashville, she says that the rose that Druitt and Shoup thought was Banshee has dark leaves, though it certainly spreads like Banshee. The one characteristic I looked for in books in an attempt to identify it was some reference to the pale leaves. They always look like they are a little short of Nitrogen. Have you seen any other, different Banshees? Where did you get yours? Mine came from a fellow here who said it was his grandmother's. My friend got his from an old lady, about 40 miles from here.
