| Comments: | Well, I went up to Peoria the other day as I heard they was havin a Blues Fest.
I had been hearin a lot about a band called the jujubees....Im sorry, JuJu Kings. I found the stage and low and behold, Dwyatt Yokum was there doing a sound check!!!! I thought this strange for a Blues Bust and I found out later, from Leslie, that it was actually Jerry Lee!!! Now Jerry Lee and I go WAY back. I know J.Lee had holes in his jeans before it was fashionable to have holes in your jeans! Anyway, I stuck around to see if these JuJu Bees.....,JuJu Kings could rock with the big boys. ie.James Armstrong and Magic Slim etc etc. Well, lemmie tell ya. The Ju Jus played it loud and proud and made folks down Peoria way believers!!!! Highlights were solid Drums and Bass, brilliant lead exchanges between the two guitarists, and a smokin intro to Whiskey Train.....(original by J.Lee). All in all , a good time was had by all up there in Peoria and heavy JU JU was in the air!!!!! Note; Please do not EDIT my little note and do not tell me you spell Kritique with a "C". I can't believe that Tampa/St Petersburg dodged this bullet. This could have easily...EASILY...been directed towards us. In fact, original projected spaghetti diagram paths had us in the line of fire for this devastating hurricane. But again, we fared without damage or destruction. Oh, there were a few "waves" on the beaches around here, but nothing devastating. I have been glued to the television for the past three days, watching the horror that has unfolded in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The panhandle of Florida seems to be alright, as I haven't heard much news from there. This reminds me of the terrorist attacks on NYC in 2001, and the devastation and horror it brought to us as we watched it unfold. People here in Florida know the effects of what a hurricane can do...and are helping our neighbors as much as possible with many donations flooding in to the various charities to assist those with absolutely nothing. As someone who has ridden out a couple hurricanes ( I guess I am a seasoned pro now ) and have seen the minor effects first hand, I ask all my friends to do one thing for me. Please donate what you can, even if it's a few dollars, to the American Red Cross. I donated last night as much as I could, and when I spoke to the person taking the call at the phone bank last night, he said that it's just been overwhelming the calls they have been receiving. But, they still need more. Please, if you can, donate a monetary gift to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW or going to their website at http://www.redcross.org Again, this could have been me and my family, and my friends, who could have been in this situation. Much needed funds were raised to support those devistated by a massive tornado that hit LaSalle county. The Juju Kings are playing at Cheapseats again this Saturday, Sept.4th, 8pm-11:30pm as part of the Streator Cruise Night festivities. It will be an old fashion street dance and we will be on a flat bed trailer!!! Last year, Cruise Night drew approx. 15,000 people to Main St. in Streator. It's very reminiscent of "American Graffiti" what with all the classic cars cruising up and down the main drag! So make sure you get down there, get a parking spot and listen to some GREAT music while checking out the scenery, whether it be cars, guitars, or ... ?? You know what I mean!! Last weekend when the Juju's played, the "Dwight Party Animals" showed up in force and helped The Juju Kings rock the night away at Cheapseats. They are great fans of music and fun. Well, the gig last night at 9th Street Pub in LaSalle, Illinois was s-s-s-smokin'! The guys had a heck of a night and rocked the crowd with their foot-stompin', rump-shakin' blues...and left no prisoners! Jerry lee also officially introduced "Goldie" to the crowd as his newest weapon in his guitar arsenal. What? You didn't make it? WELL...here ya go!!! You have another chance to see the guys and "Goldie"THIS WEEKEND, you lucky dawgs you! Can you imagine, seeing the Juju Kings two weekends in a row? 8/28/04 Streator,IL Cheapseats Sports Bar 9:30 pm-1:30 am Make sure you get out to Cheapseats early and get a seat, although you will probably be dancin' most of the night anyway. :) Again, the Juju's will have their CD, "Mojo Palace" available at the gig. If you want to get the CD before the gig to learn the tunes, then just hop on over to http://www.jujukings.com and order yourself a copy. The Juju's have a busy schedule ahead what with recording and writing coming up this fall, and adding gigs all over the midwest. Things just keep getting more "Juju" around here, which is a good thing! The word of the week..."juju"... use it in a sentence and see the reaction you get this week at work or at the store. | Comments: | Saw the recent show at Cheapseats (cool place by the way) in Streator with my wife and two other dudes from good old Mendota, home of Frizol's Tavern. We all enjoyed the performance a great deal and will continue to spread the word on how good The Juju Kings are. It would be great if they could play over here sometime because there are a fair number of rockin' blues fans in this locale. On June 5, Jerry Lee and Maxine came over to Frizol's to see another fine blues outfit from Joliet, The Pauline York Band. A real treat for the Frizol's patrons was when Jerry Lee took over the bass for a couple of tunes and sang one, too. Pauline has a great website for blues fans, also, at www.paulineyorkband.com . I recommend to anyone that likes rockin' blues to go see The Juju Kings and Pauline's band and get their CDs, too. A final thought for me today is to say that The Juju Kings' website is great and that webmeister Tom Soares does a fine job with this one and sites for 38 Special, Jim Peterik (Survivor, Ides of March), and Lynyrd Skynyrd, too. |
