Very frustrating night - bright hall, shiny floor, plastic shuttles - what fun!
June/John produced another outstanding performance (thanks for standing in again John) taking all three rubbers without losing a game [but falling over a lot John].
Jacqui/Jerry battled on gamely and took one rubber (thanks also to Jacqui for stepping into the breach at her favourite venue!).
Delia/Vic just couldn't make any contribution and ultimately let the side down - SORRY GUYS.
The consensus of opinion afterwards was that the venue was so bad we would all rather have played at AT7 before they had the new floor!!!

A tough match against an experienced, established opposition. June & John stormed through to take all of their rubbers in two ends. Delia & Vic dragged a token rubber from a pretty poor overall display. Linda & Jerry fought hard throughout but unfortunately couldn't capitalise on their efforts and narrowly lost the deciding rubber in three ends.

Another bad defeat, made worse by an injury to Will, just as he and Toni were getting their act together and we had to concede all 3 rubbers. Dave McKeegan made his debut with Kath (nursing an injury of her own) and they did manage to set in one game, but couldn't quite make their efforts pay. Ernesford do not look unbeatable if we can field a full team to play in the return at home. At least the match was played in good spirit, enhanced by an invitation to enjoy a good feast of sandwiches provided by the home team's sponsors.

Another bad defeat, but we have to confess that on the night, we were beaten by the better Hall - and shuttles - and funny lighting - oh, and 6 people who knew how to get the best out of their home advantage. We just have to get something out of the return leg to prove it was just the Hall and the shuttles and the funny lighting. John and Jo, managed to take the first end off one couple, but that just made them angry and they didn't get a look-in the next 2 ends.

First match of the season in a higher division was very tough.
Delia and Vic worked extremely hard take two rubbers to 3, narrowly losing both. Linda and Jerry had a very gruelling first rubber going to 3 and losing in the end by 2 points. June and Paul had a tough, frustrating time too.

The match itself was sometimes played in good spirit, with Josh and Chloe gaining the only rubber for the home side, despite being classed as the third pair. Toni and Will, being the only established pair, were guilty of perhaps trying too hard and failed to play to their potential. Kath and Tarn suffered from never having played together before. Well done to the third team, but be prepared for a battle in the return in 2 weeks.
