| Comments: | THAAAAAAAAAANK YOU! My husband found this little turtle near a Steel Mill in Pa. and we were going nuts trying to figure out what kind it was or how to care for it. Your site showed the perfect picture and now we know it is Eastern Spiny Softshell: Trionyx spiniferus I guess he/she was visiting because they are supposed to be in WV...there is a river near the Mill but it's acrossed a two lane highway so how this little thing made it that far being so young I have no clue. I was really worried so i checked out this website. some advice-if u have more than one turtle and one of them keeps his neck in alot of the time it leaves some exposed skin and turtles will bite that, i suggest using this site for info. of seperrating the big turtle from that single tank. |

| Comments: | I haven't had a turtle since I was a little girl(long time ago) and really don't remember alot. Around Easter my kids and I found a baby red eared slider walking across our driveway. He was covered in dried dirt and nowhere near a water source. We keep him in a bowl with rocks and pebbles for now and clean his water once or twice a day. He goes outside to a bigger bowl during the day to "suntan". He is so cute and has the best personality. He won't eat anything but turtle sticks, but I keep trying vegetables and worms. Maybe he'll like them eventually. We are really enjoying him and will give him a better habitat to live in soon. Your website has been informative and educational. Thanks! |

| Comments: | Dear turtle site dudes/chicks, I love turtles of all sorts! I've had 2 red eared sliders since i was six. Just about 2 mounths ago my friend found a turtle in a ditch near were we live so, he gave it to me(mostly because at my school im titled the turtle dude lol) it was a baby so we put in the huge quoi pond in our back yard with are 8 year old turtles(dont worry nuthin bad happens). Then the next day another one of my friends said he was giving away his turtles(what kinda idiot would do that!), so obviosly i was asked first, i said yes he dropped them off.they were tramatized in that huge quoi pond & I didn't know why. Well...until my freind came over the next day. He was so cruel to them, flippin them around as they splashed into the water. The next day he came back and dropped off another baby turtle. ok if u cant count how many turtles that is let me help. 2 8 year old turtles, another 2,3 year olds and finnaly 2 babies(probaly only 2-3 months old). thas alot of turtles, even for me! So we had to move the two babies into a smaller, already used tank. thank god no1's dropped anmore turtles off on me and now im watching the babies ripping the crud out of some crickets like pitbulls! if ur into stuff gettin devored whole then get 2 baby turtles, put them into a shallow water tank(couple inches high),then dump a couple crickets into the tank. depending on the size of the cricket u might have to flick it in the head a couple times so the turtle can get to it without the cricket squirming. oh, and have fun! |

| Comments: | Please see my story below about this poor turtle. This turtle has some minor skin sore, I think because she was so cold and a tiny slug was on her. Her eyes are puffy and a small bubble of clear fuid looked like a tear came out when she was dry. She did open her eyes about an hour after I picked her up , but only for a few minutes. Sometimes she seems very limp but will pull herself in if I tickle her feet/hads enough. She wont eat anything and her mouth looks orange and not healthy like the bone is showing or something, probably nothing that wouldn't heal? but her mouth doesnt look like the ones in the picture. Also her shell is flaking off..is this normal? All in all, she doesn't look diseased, she just looks abandoned and beat. She has moved a couple of times I think when she gets too hot because I have her in a dry tub with a heat lamp and no thermometer. Does anybody know the appropriate degrees in celcius? | Comments: | Hi. I found a (what I now know is a) red ear slider at Trout Lake Park in Vancouver, B.C. on April 15, 2005. The poor thing was obviously dumped and on the brink of deaths doorstep (still is). Well it's quite an amazing story how I even found it (male? female? how do you tell? I insist she's female but my husband wants to call her 'Fast Eddie') So as I was doing my walk I noticed a mother duck and her five tiny baby ducklings. They were up away from the marsh and obviously got stuck on the wrong side of this temporary fencing that has recently been erected. There were about 4-7 crows and I could tell they were out to snatch the baby ducklings, so I shewed the crows off with some pretty nasty obvious retaliation from them they tried to fly straight at me for interfering in their plans. Then I herded the mother duck and her five babies down to the waters edge where they could get back into the thicks of their marsh area. So then I did another lap of the lake and as I came back to the spot of the ducks entry into the water I thought 'Oh wasn't that so cute the way they couldn't get up over the wood border, I bet they left the cutest little footprints.' So I went out of my way off my normal path to go look at the waters edge where the ducks were safe and there is this turtle on the edge of a small bank just barely out of the water. She moved a tiny bit when I picked it up so then I told this man, 'hey look what I found.' It wasn't till he said,'Oh, it is probably very cold', that I even thought of bringing it home. So anyway this very special turtle is obviously blessed by god and comes with angels watching over it. She needs some serious TLC. Will any body take her? because I can't keep her. He is about 6-7" long He lives in a 30 gal Turtle tank(1 side is cut out for the filter) I think he is too big for it now & the tank is to narrow. I need to get a wider tank. I have seen other peoples tanks and they took a large tank for the swimming part and designed it witha ramp to gain access to the top of the tank and created a large basking area for it on top of the original tank. How cool is that? I am thinking of doing that myself. One question I have is that Burtle stoped eating about the 2nd week in January '05. (He is very active) and he closes one eye when he is basking. any suggestions? |

| Comments: | i have one turtle(sheldon). i have had him for about two years now. i love him so much, i like to take him out in the living room with me and watch law and order SVU! its so cute cuz when the Doink Doink noise comes on he gets a little scared and goes in his shell. but he has been in his shell alot and i guess he is hibrinating or sumtin cuz he likes to sleep alot more now.
