Beanblossum information. I thought I would pass along a festival given by a friend here is Daviess County, IN. the third week end in August. It's held on his farm in the middle of Amish county. Lots of good pickin,singin and family fun. There is always a pot of beans and usually some road kill stew. All are welcome. If you are interestd just email me and I will send directions etc. |

Is anyone aware of any Indianapolis-based organizations designed for Bluegrass players to meet together and play music together? I'm a string-bass player who plays in an "acoustic alternative" Christian band (a little blues, a little jazz, a little rock, a little Cajun, a little Cuban ... youu get the picture), and am looking to expand my horizons. I thought I had heard of an Indiana Bluegrass Consorian that meets like this, but I'm not sure. Even if you have a small combo looking for a bassist, I'd love to learn THAT way, too !! jj |

former Hoosier born and bred, this site takes me back to growing up and starting a family in Southern Indiana--as well as picking some great bluegrass. I grew up out around Milan (home of the Boys from IN)and spent early adulthood out around Beanblossom and Bloomington. Back in the 80's I was in my teens and a new banjoist, and my brother and me made all the bluegrass festivals and jams in Southern Indiana. My brother and me thought we were the Curtis Birch and Courtney Johnson of the area. If only the internet and a website like this existed at that time. After awhile I focused more on guitar playing and became a pretty good swing/blues guitarist. But, since moving down to Austin,TX, I've put aside the guitar and pulled out the banjo again. I miss Indiana and the banjo, to me, is synonomous with happy memories back in the Hoosier State. Jams down in Henryville and Scottsburg, seeing Jimmy Martin out in Brookville, the New Grass Revival at the Little Nashville Opry, or the Boys from Indiana out at Milan. I love Bluegrass, the banjo, and Indiana. Thanks for providing a great site. |
