My (Reg) greatgrandmother was Elizabeth Mary Scott born in November of 1876 in Village of Fournier, Dundas County, Province of Ontario Canada. Her father was John Scott who was born in Scotland. Sorry that we don't know who John's wife was or where born and married. Lizzie as she was called by my grandfather Stephen, is buried in Haileybury, Ontario and died in 1929. | Comments: | Folklore was told that my great great grandmother, Lucinda Shelton had a son by General Winfield Scott in 1852. He was going to marry her but his name came up for election as President of the U S in 1852 under the Whig Party and he ran for President but lost.....he died in 1866. Any DNA on General Winfield Scott's linage out there? We have DNA on our line from this son.

Biography: John Scott m. unknown Earliest known residences: Pine Creek Twp, Lycoming Cty, PA Children: John Jr, Elizabeth b. 1773 & Samuel b. 1774/1775 Samuel Scott, his sister (Elizabeth Scott m. Joseph Barnett), father (John Scott Sr) and his brother (John Scott Jr m. Mary Clover), were some of the earliest settlers of Port Barnett/Brookville Township, Jefferson County, PA. In 1810, Samuel Scott Sr moved to St. Clair Township, with his wife Abigail Mills, daughter of Col. James Mills (War of 1812). Samuel Sr & Abigail had 11 children: Ann, Mark M., James Mills (m. Mary Richie, his descendants traveled to CA for the gold rush), Mary, Samuel Jr, Reed M., Elizabeth (m. Unknown Warwick), Martha, William, Abigail, & John D. Scott. Abigail Mills died in 1843 and was burried in the Old Baptist Church Cemetary near what is now known as Trenton. Samuel Sr had joined his son, Samuel Jr, in WI after Abigail's death, but died Nov 26, 1844. In accordance with his will, his body shipped back via steamboat to be burried near his wife in OH. Samuel Scott Jr met and married Louisa Martha Jackson in La Porte County, Indiana. They had at least 1 child before their June 1844 arrival in Bloomington, Grant County, WI. In total, they had 10 children: Ann Maria, Caroline E., Marshall J., Ella F., Mark Mills (m. Mary Alice Warwick), Mary L., Amelia M., Alice L. (m. Orrin F. Hill), Sadie B. (m. Myron Sherman), and Walter J. (m. Dora Murphy). On Mar 21, 1872, Mark Mills Scott married Mary Alice Warwick in Cassville, Grant County, WI. They moved to Stuart, Holt County, NE, back to WI in 1889, and then to SD in 1890. They had 6 children: Minerva/Minnie (m. Fred Moore), Lee William (m. Myrtle Estell Root), Bess G. (m. William Hamilton), Ward Brayton (m. Aosetta Beard), Clinton/Clint (m. Elsie Unknown) and Earle Ira (m. Laura Gower). In 1917, Ward, Clint and Earle Ira Scott entered into the Montana land race and gained patent on a combined total of 600 acres of land in the northeast corner of the state. One year later, they sold their land to serve in WWI. Since all three men were experienced farmers and horsemen, the army assigned Ward to the Veterinarian Corps in 1917; Clint and Earle Ira were assigned to cannon artillery in 1918. Both Clint and Earle were on a train in France, on the way to the front, when the end to the war was declared. After his return to the US, Earle Ira settled in Minneapolis, MN, where he met his wife, Laura Gower. Earle Ira and Laura had 3 children. |

Thanks for the great page. I can hopefully add to it. I am a direct descendent of the two Scott brothers(William and Samuel?) that were the first to move to Iowa with their families in 1851. The route reversed was through Illinois to Indiana to Virginia or Kentucky. (I can't remember which without digging through the mounds of stuff I've gathered. I have been able to track their lineage back to 1780 census in Virginia or Kentucky, but then it stops. Can anyone take it back farther? If you're related to Ulysses S. Scott in Iowa, then you're a relative of mine. |

He married (????), and they had 7 children, Robert Scott who married Rachel Burton, John Jr.,who married Dicey Moon, William who married Rebecca Brown, Mary Scott who married a McFarland., Catherin Scott who married The Rev. Hugh McAden, Jean Scott who married Samuel Cunningham, and a Scott Daughter who married David Logan. Our John Scott came over in 1738, (Not sure when he was born.), and died in 1781/82 in Caswell Co. She died June 27 1891 at the age of 32. She said that the memorial hang on her G-Grandmothers wall but cannot ever recall anyone asking who Elizabeth was.
