With me cooking on grill a lot I have never got close to the taste ond flavor. Next on list is the Red Beans & Rice. Garlic Mashed Potatoes was out of this world. I did not use anything sauce on the steak( my wife did not use anthing eather that is best complement that you will ever get) |

I've been researching steak cooking methods and hit your site with a Google search. I'm definitely going to try you cast iron skillet method--sounds foolproof!! By the way, I grew up eating at Commander's Palace and Brennan's before heading off to USL in '71 and the Air Force in '72. I enjoy a good steak but what I'd REALLY like is a roast beef dressed from Parkway Bakery. MidCity Dave |

We also feel that other than a few things you mentioned like Cuban food, grouper, etc. (and I'll add stone crabs and Ted Peters fish spread/smoked fish to the list) food here is more often than not a disappointment.
If there are others from New Orleans in the Tampa Bay area, it would be great to hear from you! |

I disagree with you about Flay though, He's much too arrogant for my taste. I found your nice site googling for Jambalaya in Tampa. been in the mood for good Cajun lately. The last great Cajun I had was 2005, in a believe it or not,... Asian restaurant. Zen Forrest was holding a Katrina fund-raiser and 5 course Cajun and Creole dinner. It was superb, there was: Cream of Garlic soup Louisiana sunburst salad Seafood Gumbo Dirty rice? i think? fresh Beignets and Cafe Du Monde The chef/owner is outstanding, I've been to almost all of his tasting dinners not to mention trying everything on the menu. You must try! WWW.ZENFORREST.COM check em out Also found an okay place for Cajun, Zant cafe, chef owned, a bit crazy and eclectic. Its like sitting down at a garage sale and eating with the people selling the junk oh and if you mind little kids running around. Kinda like going to your Aunt's house? I'm gonna make a sandwich,.. good eating and keep up the great work |

| Comments: | Hi Kevin, When I read about you in the City Times I felt a warm breeze. I suspect you may become an underground foodie icon in Tampa. I can see that some of the other comments are revealing a deep yearning for an outlet to express our dissapointments, deepest desires and secret loves when it comes to the Tampa Bay restaurant scene. The fact that you seem to 'get it' outweighs the value of sites like City Search, etc.. About 3 years ago(after 9/11) I closed my much loved/hated little upscale restaurant that I owned with my ex husband. We were deeply gratified to see our loyal customers come through the door and dissillusioned that there were'nt enough! Tampa has long been needing a coming together of that which is too precious to loose, our independent restaurants! I suggest the following restaurants; Miguels Mexican on Kennedy Blvd(the good ones are really in the Port of Tampa), Mi Pueblo on Lincoln next to McFarland Park, Pane Rustica on MacDill, Zaeem Palace on Westshore Blvd and Byblos on Macdill. Oh, and if you haven't already been there, the Rack, now owned by my ex husband in our former restaurant space. Great sushi!
God bless you! |

| Comments: | Just wanted to say well done for your NYT article. And thank you. One of the things that really annoys the hell out of me about Tampa is the banal selection of what passes for good restaurant fare. The bar is set somewhere around mediocre, and I have seen a number of great places suffer because it was passed over for a McDonald's on steroids.
I've only been to New Orleans once, but the food was outstanding and I relished in the selection of little holes in the wall. I shudder to think of any New Orleans influenced cuisine you may find here. What I've had, I would never recommend. I look forward to your Tampa blog. If I might suggest: Cafe European, Tampa Bay Brewing Company, Viva la Frida's and across the street is the Front Porch. On Columbus is La Teresita for great Cuban food and House of Soul for BBQ. I make no guarantees, but I've always done well by them, and they're all extremely affordable. Also, Tampa seems to have a fairly extensive Vietnamese market, but the trick seems to be finding one that can pass the health code. Also, if you're looking for new/asian ingredients, check out Oceanic Supermarket on Tampa St (just north of 275). Best of Luck and welcome to Tampa, Shawn |

| Comments: | I enjoy your writing, informationa and comments on the Food Fest page. I collect recipes, and dabble, one in awhile with them, but no one in my family likes to try different cooking, I don't do a lot of it, due to the waste, since I always cook more than one person can eat in a reasonable amount of time. I have a very ill son, who never knows from meal to meal what he wants to eat due to his illness, and my wife has never been adventureous to trying out other meals and cusines. Keep up the good work.
