Just picked up my hug today in Montreal. I love the idea of free hugs. It was strange to hear peoples' reactions to free unconditional hugs. Some people were asking what you (the hugger) got out of just standing there hugging people. Some people didn't know what to make of the perfect statue posture and kept their distance; some people didn't even go up for hugs because they were scared. The idea of hugs for no reason except to express a human connection is really something that needs to catch on. Thank you very much for the experience. :D | |

Je suis à la lecture du livre de M. Calin, qui m'a été offert en cadeau suite à un partage que j'ai fait à une de mes proches. Je revenais d'un midi-calins-gratuits que j'avais organisé dans la rue à Gatineau afin de mettre un sourire dans la vie de nos fonctionnaires fédéraux, j'étais tout plein d'énergie positive, cette personne l'a sentie et m'a offert le livre le lendemain. L'expérience humaine unique que décrit M. Calin dans son livre est tellement vraie, je vous encourage à passer à l'action, de câliner à votre tour. Donner est encore meilleur que recevoir, je peux vous l'assurer. Quand on touche à la vérité de l'amour compassion sans attente, avec légèreté et pureté, on ne peut qu'en redemander et en offrir de plus en plus. 22/07/07.Samedi dernier,lors d'une soirée dansante, un inconnu a fait un arrêt cardiaque. j'ai participer de très près à le réanimer, il est dcd 4 jrs plus tard. Il a pû voir ses enfants avant de mourir. Je n'avais jamais fais de réanimation cardio-respiratoire. J'ai été très bouleversée d'avoir réussi, avec l'aide d'une autre personne à lui redonner la vie et d'apprendre par la suite son décès. Depuis une semaine, je me sentais vidée. Bonjour Martin, Je viens de passé deux journée inoubliable en ta compagnie a faire du massage sur chaise aux gens qui passait et en prenant des pauses câlins dans tes bras pour me ressourcer. C'est vraiment le cas, je suis revenue chez moi, après chaque journée, le coeur grand comme une montagne et rempli jusqu'a rebord d'une énergie, de sensibilité et d'amour pour une force de la nature pour ne pas dire un dieu! Je penses réellement que tu es devenu un guide important pour le cour de ma vie comme a plusieurs personnes. Tu m'as dis queque chose qui m'a fais chaud au coeur:«tu fais de bon câlin!» On me dit souvent que je fais de bon massage (avec on coeur) mais que toi tu me complimente sur ma façon de toucher les gens, me fait rendre compte que je suis sur la bonne voie. J’ai beaucoup apprécié votre conférence. Je dois vous avouer que je ne me dirigeais à une clinique de la FQCC lorsqu’en passant devant la porte de votre conférence, j’ai remarqué l’affiche portant la mention « Monsieur Câlin ». Nous étions, ma femme et moi pressé par le temps car nous étions quelques minutes en retard pour la clinique. Malgré tout, je me suis arrêté et j’ai crié à ma femme, « Vas-y toi, moi je vais plutôt aller à celle-ci. Si vous me connaissiez, vous sauriez que lorsque j’ai décidé d’aller quelque part, il est très rare que je change d’idée à la dernière seconde comme cela. Mais l’image sur la photo me rappelait cette espèce de radieux personnage qui donnait des caresses gratuites à qui en voulais sur la place Jacques Cartier du Vieux Montréal, il y a quelques années déjà. Je me rappelle l’avoir observé sans y aller bien sûr. Orgueil obligeait à l’époque. Je me rappelle l’avoir observé pendant plusieurs minutes en me disant… « Il est plus brillant que moi cet homme qui offre ces câlins gratuitement » – il reçoit des pourboires à l’occasion et est reconnu amuseur public alors que moi, je les offre aussi gratuitement, sans condition mais sans pourboire avec souvent un jugement négatif de la part des gens (Autre que ceux et celles qui les reçoivent bien entendu). On m’a souvent appelé le câlinours ou le Gros Nounours (Vu mon gabarit imposant). Vous voyez que les câlins font depuis longtemps parti de ma vie. Plusieurs de mes amies, cousines, et autres membres de ma famille, m’appelle au téléphone ou passe tout simplement à la maison pour me demander une caresse (un câlin). Elle me disent même : « Je suis dû là, empresse toi de me donner ma caresse ». Il semble que ce soit ma marque de commerce depuis plusieurs années déjà. Certains m’appelle l’opportuniste, d’autres, rage de jalousie, d’autres se moque de mes câlins en pensant que je le fait, tout simplement pour espérer un jour, leur voler leur conjointe mais d’autre m’en demande en se moquant mais les accepte avec beaucoup de vérité et de tendresse malgré tout. Mais, ce qui est le plus extraordinaire dans tout çà, c’est que je l’ai toujours fait sans raison et sans attente particulière. Tout simplement pour faire le bien autour de moi et parce que j’aime bien le toucher et le contact humain réel. Voilà pourquoi, en assistant à votre conférence, j’ai enfin compris pourquoi tout cela avait un effet si positif sur les gens qui passaient me les demander. Je pouvais maintenant donner un sens à mes comportements de tendresse. J’ai toujours aimé faire le bien, aider les gens, valoriser les gens pour ce qu’ils sont. Depuis bien avant l’émission de télévision qui porte le nom, je donne au suivant et demande au gens d’en faire pareil. Lorsque vous parliez de la joie et l’amour que l’on ressent lorsque l’on donne sans rien attendre en retour (L’histoire du pain à l’épicerie), je vous rejoins tout à fait car c’est une de mes valeurs profondes. L’amour inconditionnel (« sans condition » que j’appelais de mon côté). Je fais souvent des gestes de la sorte, n’importe quand mais plus souvent à des gens qui ne sont pas dans le besoin. Tout simplement pour leur rappeler que faire le bien est possible par pour tout le monde pour tout le monde et pas seulement dans le temps de fêtes. Je me suis fais le cadeau de votre livre après la conférence dans le but de le remettre à mon fils Adam qui souffre énormément en ce moment et qui cherche de façon désespéré, le courage pour s’en sortir. Vous l’avez même dédicacé à son nom. Mais j’ai commencé à le lire et il m’a été impossible de le remettre à mon fils sans d’abord en terminer la lecture. Salut monsieur Calin. Je viens juste d'écouter un film de Tarkovsky, et out of the blue, j'ai pensé à vous et je me demandais qui vous étiez, alors j'ai cherché sur google. J'ai repensé à votre démarche et j'ai trouvé ça très zen. Je vous faisais des calins après le travail, parce que le travail tue. Je me suis dite que vous travaillez surement pas et que vous étes surement plus heureux que la moyenne des gens. Le salaire est différent mais beaucoup plus riche. En tous cas, je vous trouve drole et sincère, et j'apprécie que vous preniez le temps de sensibiliser la masse aux rapports humains qui existent encore hors du cadre d'un rapport marchand. | |

I wanted to thank you so much for your hugs this past Saturday. I have tried to sign the guestbook on your website but I keep getting an error so I thought you might get this email. Before I came to you for a hug I watched you for a few moments. I saw right away that you accepted everyone with such an open heart. I felt the lovingkindness you embodied and suddenly I REALLY wanted a hug. In the circle of our hug I felt peace, comfort and hope. I felt the grace of the human spirit. Not even in my daily meditation have I felt that way. I wanted to say thank you for spreading such lovingkindness to the world. And especially thank you for reminding me that I too deserve love. I find myself often thinking about hugging lately. Just the day after the photo was taken with you, my mother passed away. I had to return home to attend to the arrangement one has to make. I received many, many hugs in the past two weeks and I can honestly say that they were gifts. They kept me centered and allowed me to concentrate on the tasks at hand. So, you provide a good and valuable service that no doubt benefits you as well. I believe that if everyone got their daily quota of hugs the world would likely be a better, happier place. I was in Montreal last week for the longest stretch of time I have ever had. Suffice it to say that this recent trip was definitive in a number of areas that will indeed determine the outcome of some of the most crucial elements of my life. I came to see you a few times in a row, near the end of my trip. This trip was, as I said,pivotal in a number of areas, and meeting with you for the healing embrace was actually deeply therapeutic. It also gave me time to meditate on the moment, which allowed me to disengage (momentarily)from fretting and being eaten alive by fear and regret. This time allowed me to rest briefly from the pain of the loss of a broken marriage and the potential of losing my children. It reminded me to breathe through the contractions just as any labouring mother delivering a child needs to do. In this incredibly difficul time of transition, receiving your hugs on the days I did was not at all a novelty, it was actual administering of healing, and I hope that I was able, in my small way, to reverberate it back to you. Many blessings to you as you continue to be a conduit for Love and Light. And thank you for reminding me that Perfect Love Casts Out All Fear. Like you told me...it's all we really need to remember. I was on vacation with my family in Montreal. As we walked past various performers and venders we saw a man, arms outsetretched ready for a hug. It was alarming to see something so disarming and genuine. I will admit to being nervous and skeptical. After just getting out of an abusive home situation I had become closed and resistant to physical contact. My older sister and I stood watching this man for a few minutes. She was the first to get a hug, I followed and recived the most honest and loving hug I had ever experienced. My mother was the last of us to get a hug. As her daughters we knew the stress and turmoil that she had been under. He hugged her for several minutes, he knew that she needed it. I came back the next day and bought his book which is one of the most inspirational things I have ever seen. I just want to say thank you. So much was given to me and my family by a single hug from a loving individual. | |

I have been spending my summer in Montreal, and I only came across Mr. Neufeld a few days ago. At first it was kind of awkward, and I found myself wondering about why anyone would want to stand still for so long, and hug perfect strangers. However, I got up the courage, dropped some money in the donation tin, and experienced one of the most fantastic embraces of my life, and suddenly understood! I felt light and happy for quite some time afterwards. It was like having good karma or something thrust upon you - and I did notice that everyone around the Hugger Busker were indeed smiling. On my trip to Montral with classmates I noticed you standing compleatly still. And I was shocked, moving closer I noticed one of my friends comming to you for hug after hug. I then decided that I would like one to, unsure what to expect and nervice I walked up to you. And felt a strange emotion overcome me. I pulled away only to realize that I really should have embrased. after sticking around a while a baught your book and put it aside as I stayed I then started joking later in our hotel walking around hugging classmates. But not in a crude or mocking but in a way of respect. A few days later comming back from Montreal I started to let my mind wander and I ended up spending 4 of the 6 hours back to Tornto reading your book..at first it grabbed me almost relating in a spiritual way. and four hours later I was still almost sad that I had finnished your book so fast but my mind also streamed with a new found positive warmth. I have always apretiated hugs but this took it over the top. I still feel your warmth and positive energy when I think about you and the wonderfull experience you gave me and I really think that there it is a therapy of its own for people to cherish. I'm glad you turned your life around because I know after reading the storys in your book you have touched more then my heart. I hope you write more books that eventualy get deeper and deeper into hugging and That explains more and more About the body and what hugging does.I like you am an observer and it gives me hope to know What creative things observers come up with. All of which are probably things that we know deep down would personaly love , and love to do. But that are also one of a kind thoughts. Because no two people experience the same emotions and experiences or observe the same emotions and experiences.
