My Great Grandmother was Sophronie Vadnais born 26 May 1826 in St Jean Baptiste QC died 01 Mar 1903. Married Francois Auclair in 29 Sep 1846. I am researching the change of religion during that era. Some of the Auclairs' and Vadnais' among others were practicing Catholics and at some stage become Baptist. I heard anecdotally from my family that this was due to some conflict re location for building a church in St Hilaire. My husband's family seen to know little about their faminly, I have been trying to trace their family back none seem so know their great grand parent's names. My husbands's names were Joseph Richard Vadney and Robert Anthony Vadney (Brothers). Both are deceased now. Their parents were William Thomas Vadney and Henrietta (Fiset) Vadney. Grandparents were Joseph Vadney and Catherine (Millet - I'm not sure on the spelling of her maiden name)Vadney. They were both born in Quebec, Canada, Joseph became a citizen of the USA August 19, 1919 in Albany, New York. Sorry to hear the loss! I am enquiring a bit about one of my ancestors...which has me a bit confused. My great grandfather was listed as St Pierre Parenteau on the 1901 Census, son of Pierre Parenteau and Virgine(Nertienne)nee Chartrand. His 2 other sisters Helen and Clara Parenteau are also mentionned. His father was Pierre Parenteau, son of Joseph Alphonse Parenteau(born Sept 30, 1848/49) and Ellen "Nellie" Cook(daughter of William Jr Cook and Mary Cocking/Cook). He was born in either 1848 or 1849 in Manitoba. His father was Joseph Parenteau, we believe, but don't know his mother's name. It could either be Suzanne Daigneault or Angelique Godon but none of their children seem to fit the date and age. and his father was Joseph Victor Parenteau. Would anyone know where to look for this information so we can have proof of our family lineage. Her ggrandfather, Augustus Vadney, b. abt 1823, emigrated from Canada to the area south of Albany, NY before 1850. In the same area was his brother Emanuel, b. abt 1820. There was also another Vadney in the area, Joseph, b. abt 1818, but I haven't proved the relationship.
What intrigues me is that the CD ROM accompanying the book, which is attributed to you, shows three siblings out of Edouard Vadenay of Rouville, QP, and the birth years match. The only difference is that Augustus in my line shows up as Charles Augustin as a child of Edouard. Incidentally, Augustus named his first born male child George Edward. His father-in-law's first name was George. He also named another child Emmanuel. I was wondering if you have any further information regarding the children of Edouard and M Joachin Prive. Your records also show that another child, Moise, moved to Vermont, and then had a child in Albany NY. Any information you can provide would be helpful. If you wish, I can provide you the line I have from me back to Augustus. |

I entered the name "Dusty LaBore" in Google and it brought me right to your site. I verified my findings on Dusty when I saw his daughter, Gladys, married George Parenteau. George was my neighbor in Gem Lake until he died. His son Jeff developed the old homestead into a rather nice subdivision called Heritage Garden. I sit on the Gem Lake Planning Commission and we refer to that as a model for others to follow. Dusty's son, Lloyd, still lives in Gem Lake about three houses down from me. By the way, does anyone know where Dusty is buried? I understand he moved to California. Dusty was a prominent person in Gem Lake mainly because he was hired by all the estate families (Daniels, Bemis, White) who lived on our namesake lake. While my main interest is Gem Lake, the local history is intertwined to a point, just like many of the French families in the area. |

I am requesting any information on my ancestor Pierre Parenteau, who was sentenced to 7 years in Jail for his involvement in the Riel Rebellion in 1885. I happen to live in the house formerly owned by Musson, James Nathan Musseau and Mabel (Battiste), both now deceased. I noticed your ? by Howard/Harold. Thought you might want to know that he was always called Howard that I know of. Last known residence was Corner Brook, Newfoundland. However, I believe he has since passed away. Dolly married Ronald Doyle and Gerald still lives in this neighborhood. Most of their spouses/children/grandchildren also live in Port aux Basques. |

Thank You so very much for the this wonderful website. I know all of the time and effort it must have taken. A few months ago I was trying to get information from my father about his family heritage. He knew very little. I now know that his sister was named after her grandmother (on the Vadnais side of the family).
