I'm spending this weekend in a ski cabin in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, with a few friends, and having a great drunken time!! Had a great night last night in a pub called the Red Parka in Attitash, saw a great band and drank far too much. We're off to the local pub(12 miles away)called the Mad River Tavern tonight. Boston RFC cintinue to perform, beating Boston Irish Wolfhounds (our great local rivals) 16-9 yesterday - perhaps you want to include them in your Rugby News? On a more sobering note it was sad to hear of the death of Mik Radford on Friday - he was a great servant to Blackwood RFC over the years and will be sadly missed. See you all at Christmas!! |

My wife's family were from Trefil.I know little about them or the village itself and would welcome any information.Her great great grandfather was Evan Evans who was a boatman presumably on a canal.Her great grandfather was a quarryman named Thomas Evans was born in 1819 and married Mary Williams on 5 July 1841.Grandfather was Samuel Evans who was born at Trefil in 1852 and married firstly Mary jane Plummer then later Martha ?.All the family seemed to be involved with the limestone quarry at trefil but may be someone may be able to help with more information. |

It was once littered with coal levels and a Mill and was said to have been the home of one of the joint composers of the Welsh National Anthem, I wonder? I haven't been able to find any real history of the Sirhowy railway. I'm sat here watching the heavy snow fall on a freezing New England morning - but happy in the knowledge that Blackwood completed the double over Cross Keys yesterday and have moved up to fifth in the table. It's good to see them continue the march up the tsble - and great to see Llanelli stuffed my old town Leicester as well. I just wish I could be down the Crown this morning to put the world to rights in the old fashioned tradition. Never mind, it's off to Desmomd O'Malleys bar this afternoon to watch the NY Jets against the Oakland Raiders - not quite the same but the closest I.m going to get to real sport until the Six Nations starts - then the games are shown live at 10.00am in McGann's bar in Boston. The only problen is I'll be watching the games with a large posse of Irishmen, so when Wales lose to Ireland in Dublin it could be interesting. In case anyone is interested I was born in the "Nursing Home" Market Street, Tredegar, Monmouthshire, South Wales - Wednesday 12th January 1944. Taught to play piano/church organ by the late Professor W. J. R. Davis - A.R.C.O. Bounrville Terrace, Tredegar, Monmouthshire. One of my other great friends from Tredegar was the legendary W. G. (Billy) Griffiths - actor - producer - director and comedian. I was assistant accompanist with the former R.T.& B. Variety Concert Party for "Mother Goose 1962 and we presented this production in the Workmen's Hall Theatre/Cinema, Thursday/Friday/Saturday 10th/11th/12th January 1963. I later returned to the hall as Chief relief projectionist. Presently I am just completing a book about the late Billy Griffiths as well as other local - South Wales characters, a village cinema and Arthur William Haggar. |
