| Comments: | Alexander came to Australia on the British King c1837-8 as an 8 year old child. His home in Scotland had been the Isle of Mull. He came with his grandfather, father, mother, and paternal uncle, brothers, sisters, and 1st cousins. Sadly three of the family members died on the journey from Tobermoray, Scotland. The family arrived in Sydney, and moved to the Mount Fraser, near Beveridge, Victoria. Alexander moved throughout Victoria, and married Mary in Warnambool on 14/02/1860. Their first child Thomas was born at Carramut in Western Victoria in 1861, followed by another 12 brothers and sisters. My grandfather, Albert John Simon Fraser was their eighth child. The family resided in the Kew area by mid 1880 - 90's with Alexander being buried in Boorondarra Cemetery, Kew with his wife and other family members. According to the 'Strathfieldsaye's ships manifest of 1841 all four arrived Melbourne in August of 1841 , John and Ann were both born in 1819 and Jane 1816, Elizabeth in 1840. From many letters we have from the subsequent 17 years, the family spent time in and around Melbourne, the birth/baptism of three children being registered as follows in Bourke County: Mary Jane Knox (birth) 30 June 1844, Alice Craven Knox (birth) 28 May 1846' John Knox (birth) 3 August 1848. Other younger children David and Sarah Anna. The letters then begin to arrive from 'Kings River' where it seems the family established a small sheep/milling enterprise. Any information gratefully received. |

| Comments: | Joseph Chapman was a seaman born in Liverpool, and son of Captain Charles Chapman, who commanded the Great Britain for 3 years up to his death in 1875. Joe came to Australia in 1911, we think, and settled in Mornington. He had 3 children by the 1930's/40's, Vera (Veronica), Charles and Maree.
His niece Ethel (Dolly) Ross had come out 2 years before, and settled in Albury, where she married Henry Wortmann. We don't beleive they had any children. That's all we know, and we would love to know more, and to make contact with any descendents. |

| Comments: | Searching for any information about and the descendants of two brothers, William McKerlie & Miles McKerlie who arrived in Vic. in March 1853 aboard the SCARGO out of British Columbia or the United States. The ship's register gives their surname as McKeslie. The brothers were born in Upper Canada in 1829 and 1831 respectively. It is believed they went to Australia for the gold rush. By 1876 both brothers were believed dead, according to their father's will.
William McKerlie married Sarah Bales in 1860. They had 6 known children: Eliza Jane b. 1861, MORR; d. age 6, 1867 Emily b. 1863, MORR; d. age 4, 1867 Amelia b. 1864, MORR; d. age 3, 1867 William John b. 1868, SEBASTOPOL Lavinia b. 1870, BEAL James b. 1872, BEAL It is possible that James McKerlie served as a Private with either the 5th Vic. Mounted Rifles or the 6th Aust. Commonwealth Horse (Vic) during the Boer War. |

| Comments: | Rev Thomas Cooper Searle sailed to Tasmania from London, England with first wife Ellen. Priest with the Episcopalian Church. Was indebted to Englsih creditors, served time in jail on Tasmania. Had four children with first wife Ellen, one died onboard ship sailing to Tasmania. Second child, Mary Jane, lived for a couple of years and died. Their third child was Sarah Cooper (SEARLE) GREAVES (1846-1918), the fourth child was Richard Cooper SEARLE, Sr (1846-1937). First wife Ellen died on 12 Sep 1854 in Heathcote, Victoria. Rev Searle married second wife Elizabeth Cooper (1818-1900) on 13 Mar 1856. He had two more children, Annie Ellen Cooper (SEARLE) Jacobs (1857-1940) and John Cooper SEARLE, Sr. (1860-1927).
In August 1870, Rev Searle and his two sons, Richard and John, sailed to Hawaii where he died August 1876 in Lahaina, Maui. Richard married my grandmother, Ana Nalaelima Kaahaaina Kahiamoe and had four children, and John married Sarah Ann Yates and had nine children. A few of my well-known Australian descendants and family to Rev SEARLE were Ida GREAVES and John JACOB, Jr. (Gold Rush Days). Any further information on this SEARLE, GREAVES, and JACOB Family's will be greatly appreaciated. |

I have not been able to find any children. Spencer married Elizabeth Osborne they had 4 children and after her death her sister, Mary Anne Osborne they had no children.Spencer died in Geelong in 1916. (Spencer is my gg grandfather) Although listed as living on her father's death certificate I have been unable to locate any marriage or death for Edith Rachel Clarke. Our DEWAR surname went to Australia sometime after 1887. This line descended from David DEWAR / Annie NEISCH Campbell Dewar (Campbell was 1st husband & Dewar was 2nd). She went to Australia after 2nd hsyb. died in 1887 in Scotland. She took with her a daughter Jean Primrose DEWAR & 2 son's -David DEWAR & John CAMPBELL and her bachelor brother, Duncan NEISCH. We have a written account of her trip to Australia on the ship Loch Vencare, it took 365 days, very rough trip and had only salt pork left to eat upon arrival. Family story is: She started the first temperance movement in this area in Australia and held the first meeting via a temperance hotel/boarding house. That was their reason for going to Australia. It was near the gold mines in the bush country. Her first husband, named Campbell, had been a heavy drinker and died drunk. This information came first hand from her daugher, Jean. Her son David's son, also a David, visited our branch of the family in 1960. He stated that he had owned the largest leather goods store (briefcases, luggage's) in Melbourne, Australia and his son's took over the business. One of his sonÕs opened a branch store in Sydney. The father, David DEWAR lived in Kincardine, 177 Arthur St., Fairfield. The son's names were: Roderick DEWAR - lived in Rosanne, Victoria Robert Duncan DEWAR -lived at 179 Arthur St., Fairfield David H. DEWAR - lived at 40 Belmont Ave., Meblourne and George DEWAR - lived in Lindfield, Sydney, NSW |
