Comments:I am writing this on Christmas Day 2007 from Christchurch New Zealand.
I first heard Badfinger on the Radio here during 1970 with their amazing song 'No Matter What' At 15 Years Old it blew me away. I also knew of their other hits 'Baby Blue' and 'Day After Day'.
For nearly 35 Years I lost track of them, until several years ago I rediscovered them, by buying a CD at a Automobile Swapmeet called 'No Dice' produced in 1992.
Now I am Collecting with a vengence all record memerabilia associated with the most under rated and 'Best Band in the World'. I also collect Beatles items, but Badfinger are so so special.
Now I have around 20 items of them, including, Vinyl LPs & 45s NZ & US Issues, CDs; and Sheet Music
I found their memorabilia is so very hard to find now and collectable.

I have discovered great songs like. 'Maybe Tomorrow' 'We're For The Dark' 'It Had To Be' 'Friends Are Hard To Find' to name but a few.
I never knew what happened to Pete Ham and Tom Evans, till a year ago; and this saddened and upset me.
Nor did I know that Pete & Tom penned 'Without You' in my opinion one of the Top Love Songs of all time.
Rest in Peasce Pete & Tom, for your songs and music will live on for hundreds of years to come, long after all of the new junk music of today has long gone.
I am playing 'No Dice' as I write this.

God Bless all of Badfingers Families and Fans all over the World at Christmas Time and beyond.
I love you all for we have so much in common.

Comments:I saw a version of Badfinger back in the early fall (October I believe) of 1984 at a bar in Indianapolis called The Vogue. I had always loved Badfinger and their music and still do to this day. I don't remember much about the concert other than it was loud and I thought Tom Evans looked extremely sad and depressed when he was on stage playing, at one point introducing a song by saying something like "for those of you who still care..." I believe it was only about a month later that he took his life. So sad...

I feel like I knew these people and understand the angst they must have felt. I wonder if Dixie every knew Baby Blue was about her. If someone wrote such a beautiful ballad about me - I would certainly jump right back in his arms. Great music from a great band.

Comments:I saw Badinger in Chicago in 1972 and again in Nov. 1975
and at a place called the thirsty Whale where the 3 surviving original members Tom, Joey, and Mike with Bob Jackson on keyboards played a great but depressing concert. The band was sitting at the bar drinking before the show and I was astonished at how drunk Tom Evans was yet his performance was flawless. Also Bob Jackson was a very nice man and gracious and generous with his memories of Pete Ham. The band autographed my copy of no dice that I'd brought along.
They played well and the audience was small but obviously all fans and very enthusiastic I say it was depressing because I had the impression that Tom did not enjoy playing in a small bar and that we were both comparing The Thirsty Whale to The Chicago Auditorium, a first class venue where I'd heard them in Nov. 1973. Tom was obviously depressed so it was no surprise to read of his suicide a few months later. I must say that I despise Joey Molland and his treatment of his late bandmates. I would like to communicate with other longtime Badfinger fans.

Comments:I always loved this band. I like listening to the raw stuff which goes out as "extras" on the cds. I met Tommy and Joey in 1978 when they were working on a new badfinger album. I was at Beatlefest when they just showed up while Richard DeLillo (spelling ?) was speaking. I knew I was meetting Rock N Roll royalty. They were that to me. Pete and Tom were such great writers. When someone speaks of great written music, I always go out and buy a copy of "The Best of Badfinger" and give it to them. They always thank me.

Pete Ham, Tom Evans - I just can't describe how I feel about them. So incredibly talented that I'm just left in awe. Mike Gibbons - a great creative drummer whom I'll always admire & look up to. Joey Molland - another great player & band member. I wish that I could've met these guys, but I was born too late. Oh well, I've got most of the CD's, videos, the book, ect. so I just get on with it.

Comments:I've liked Badfinger since I first heard Come and Get It back in 1970 when I was 8 years old. Although I couldn't say they were my favorite group (Beatles, Dylan, The Jam and The Kinks are), they had some of my all time favorite songs (Baby Blue, Day After Day, No Matter What). Here in Minneapolis, they still get respectable airplay. In recent years, I've been listening alot to the 1995 Best of Badfinger cd and especially like Name of the Game, Take it All, Money, and Midnight Caller.

I've met Joey Molland twice here in the Twin Cities and found him to be a likable guy. His This Way Up cd is outstanding. However, I'd have to say that having just completed the excellent (but depressing) Badfinger book, my opinion of him has fallen.

My Christmas list this year includes Wish You Were Here and Head First cd's. The music may have been recorded a long time ago, but I find it incredibly meaningful and enjoyable today!!

Comments:Quite Right! Blind Faith is not Traffic! I decided that I would list it with Traffic for more reasons. It was recorded during the short interim where Traffic was disbanded, Winwood´s songs and vocals always were the highligts for me on the album and bassist Rick Gretch actually joined Traffic for a short while; documented on “Welcome to the Canteen”.

I also decided to list Mason´s first solo album here, as the mood on that album comes very close to Mason´s Traffic songs.

I found myself reflecting and I walked to my CD Collection to pull out a very often played CD. "The Best of Badfinger"
One of my favorite groups of all time. They are not the Beatles no, but if there were ever a group that could follow behind such legends and genuinely play purely from the emotions of the heart as did the "Beatles" none other could stand in that arena but "Badfinger". I have loved those guys and their music all through the years and still this day they take me home to a place of connection to the best tunes ever written and played.
My favorite is Day After Day! If I were George Harrison I would have wanted to play on that as well. Salute to "Badfinger" one of your all time fans.

I am 51 years old and I was definitely around when you guys first recorded "No Matter What". Actually, I have a 70's CD with your group doing a stereo remake of "No Matter What", "Baby Blue", and "Day Afer Day". It sounds better than the original.

You brought many years of excellent music to my ears, and still 30 some odd years later I am still listening to you.

I want to get "No Dice" and "Straight Up" on CD's, but I am having a difficult time finding them. I particularly like the song "Perfection", off the the "Straight Up' album.

Thanks Badfinger !

"LETS TALK ABOUT JOEY"
Two of Joey's Weakest LPs are No Dice & Straight Up. No Dice just does not have enough Joey. I do love the album and performances of the others. I think it was a good follow up to Magic Christian Music. The others actually got to stand out and shine on this one.
Straight is just not a stand out Joey at all. Flying and Id Die Babe are about it from Joey that was worthy. The others did not step up to the plate that the album desperately needed compared to No Dice.

As I have long contended, I just think Joey was having a bit of a writers slump. That was the strength of Badfinger, that they had 4 strong writers to keep the machine going.

Oddly it was No Dice and Straight Up that were hit LPS for Badfinger."

Comments:Became a Badfinger fan when I first heard Magic Christian when my big brother bought the album back in 69. I was only six years old, but I loved it. It was perfect timing as I was just starting to get a flavor for rock music. Pete Ham quickly became my favorite songwriter/singer. His music and the band in general are still very close to my heart. I made several compilation cd's from my collection of albums, tapes and cd's that I listen to regularly.
I just got the Concert for Bangladesh on DVD and am thrilled to see Pete playing with George on Here Comes The Sun. With the likes of Eric Clapton, Jesse Ed Davis, along with Tommy and Joey, George asked Pete to play the song with him. That's so cool and says a lot about George's respect for Pete as a guitar player. Pete's performance was perfect, though I was disappointed that the band wasn't given a more prominent spot on stage or alowed to do a song of their own. I also wish there was more video available of Badfinger performing live.
I'm thinking about adding a tribute page for Badfinger to my website but I am not sure about any copyright issues for song lyrics or photographs. If anyone reading this has already done so, I would appreciate any info you could provide.
Peace,
JJ

Comments:I grew up with the Beatles and in 1969 i really didn't pay much attention to Badfinger. Yes, we all heard their top hits over and over so much well...they got played out kind of. It wasn't until last year when i decided to take out a CD I bought (and never listened to) of Badfingers Greatest Hits. I listened and I said "Holy Shit, where have I been all this time"!! I was floored with some of the "lesser known songs. But what changed me completely was the tune "When I Say". Its one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard! I could go on & on but, all I'd like to say is, thank you Badfinger, you have opened my eyes again to music that has no equal.

Comments:Just been speaking to a friend in South Africa-Duncan Faure.
Duncan was in a big band in SA in the seventies called "Rabbit". Also in the band was Trevor Rabin, who ended up in YES and now lives in LA writing film scores.

Duncan ended up in the Bay City Rollers. Duncan was/is the songwriter of Rabbit and his solo albums since Bay City.
So what's this to do with badfinger? Duncan tells me that Joey Mollnand called him up in 1988 to join hias badfinger. Duncan turned him down as he had enough of the band thing at that moment in time.

Duncan's voice, harmonies and musicianship would be a wonderful matchup for a badfinger tribute album. Check him out on http://www.duncanfauremusic.com/ Obviously Joey thought he was just right for badginger.

Too bad, I didn't know about them before. The most underated band in the history of music. Although it has been somewhat tough, I am working on obtaining their entire catalog. Their music is awesome.

I was sad to learn of Michael Gibbons death, and wish I had known about this web site then. I hope Joey Molland makes his way to Texas. I was going to go see him in Waxahatchie, TX, but he cancelled. Pure genius music.

Comments: It's sad to hear of Mike's passing, even if he did go peacefully in his sleep. He was too young to go just yet. I saw Badfinger in 1986 (I think it was)at the Lonestar here in Kansas City, Mo. I'm pretty sure the only 'original' members were Joey and Mike. I do remember thinking,"Man..I wish Pete & Tom were here for this. Imagine what it'd be like then. To actually have Pete singing songs like "No Matter What" and Tom singing his songs. But make no mistake, for certain it was still a great show.
The music of Badfinger can never be forgotten. Let's all make sure of that. Pass it on to the next generation. Believe it or not there are kids out there who actually think for themselves and might be willing to go against the grain and give it a listen. Whenever I get the chance to try to pass along a bit of classic rock appreciation to a youngster, I make it a point to include Badfinger along with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, CCR, etc. Sometimes the kids will surprize you.
I believe that Badfinger is truly the all-time most underappreciated band in rock 'n' roll. There were/are others, too (the Hollies, the Rainmakers, Webb Wilder..immediately come to mind)..but no band as gifted and talented as Badfinger has ever been so overlooked. Hopefully, somewhere somehow Pete, Tom, and now Mike know just how much pure joy their music has brought to millions of us. For Pete, Tom, Mike, John & George..R.I.P

I am going to see Badfinger in Macon, Georgia fri oct 21, 2005 @ Rock A Billy's 7:30 pm tickets $15.00 Imagine that! Joe Molland is the bands last survivor I guess, Last time I seen Badfinger was in Atlanta, Ga in the 80's, at the Fox Theatre, was an awsum event. Friend of mine called Joey last week and Joey said the band sounds really great, I don't know if he scheduled this performance before or after Mike passed away. It will be great to see him again! :)They are going to do 90 minutes of all Badfinger songs ~awsum~ My friend, Ronnie Smith, founder of> The Silver Hammer Band (Warner Robins, Georgia) is going to open for them Friday, they do mostly Beatle's being avid Beatle fan from the get go, But Anyways I hope some of you are able to make it to the show. Comments:Dan! Very interesting subject. I´m sure you agree that´s not the number of that decide whether an album is good or succesful. Sometimes too many songs, may take focus away from the best songs; especially if too many of them are only average. Another important thing, I believe, is the tracklisting. I have tried to "compile" the "ultimate" Ass album. Take a look here, and feel free to give your comments to it.

I hope everyone reading this Guest Book will take the time to read Randy's Guest Book. The more dialogue the better. Forgive me if I raise a subject that has been already discussed but here goes: I have been listening to the "Ass" CD and the unreleased songs recorded during the "Ass" sessions. I do not understand why Apple put so many bonus tracks on the first few CD's and only had a total of 11 tracks on "Ass". There was so much good music recorded at the same time besides "Do You Mind" yet Apple felt this was the only "bonus" track worth adding. Why not add more tracks and let the listener decide? A 19-20 track CD certainly would have sold better.

Badfinger could have been just as popular as other 70's rock groups but they were overshadowed by the Beatles connection. Come & Get It is one of my all time favorite Badfinger classics.

This is a momentous body of work, made more tragic and yes interesting because of the history.

Comments:Great website, but I think that 'Open Road' deserves an upgrade in the ratings. To me, it seems like a refreshing change of pace and I never get tired of it. Years ago our first Donovan (45) was "Rikki Tiki Tavi" and the spectral "Roots of Oak" on the flip side. I just heard "Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth" on Little Steven's "Underground Garage" radio show and that's another gem. And Badfinger -- what a fantastic band and such a tragedy. Several years ago I actually got to see Joey Molland and his configuration of the band at our local gambling riverboat, the Mississippi Belle. It was a free concert, even. Unless you had a time machine, I guess you can't go back to the Sixties, but you can still enjoy the music / culture / philosophy. I can't get enough of it -- maybe we need a Sixties TV channel. Good luck with everything and have you heard of Radio Seagull? I just found that website tonight and it might be worth checking out. Take care!

Comments:Pete Hamm lives again. Fantastic website...one of my favorites....they tabs are just a manifestation of my wishes..thank you...thank you.

on a downnote....Its driving me crazy..."DEAR ANGIE" is like one of my all time Badfinger faves. could you...would you...post it....I had bid on "BadFinger complete anthology" sheet music songbook...but a man with money outbid me. I had bid up to $150 and it pissed him off and he bid like $275 or something like that...so I was kind of left inhaling fumes and well its driving me crazy...I must...I must have the "Dear Angie" musical score. Comments:Iver been a musician for over 36 years and Ive never heard of an "H" chord, until I read your lyrics to Day After Day.Do you mean an "A" chord at the next octave-up?Theres plenty of beginners out there whom you could be tripping-up with such misleading print. No offense,Im just calling it as I see it.Peace,Geoff
