There was a Vince Gill song that they really liked and said reflected their life. I do not want to ask them about it, but I would like to find that song. I know that it is quite a few years old, but that is about all I know. Any ideas from you die-hard fans? |

Just ask Geoffrey Giuliano, the notorious Beatles biographer who's recently made headlines and bank queues with Lennon in America. Giuliano's latest work (based in part on the so-called "lost Lennon diaries") slings mud on the saintly image John Lennon has achieved since his murder 20 years ago. Calling this biography controversial is an understatement -- Lennon fans, casual or devoted, will shake their head in disbelief at the shocking "facts" Giuliano, the author of 18 Beatles biographies, has culled over 16 years of research and interviews. "I love John Lennon, man," says an outspoken Giuliano amid the lunch-hour din at Fred's Not Here. "But I love the real John Lennon, not the Disney character." Giuliano is referring to a "real" Lennon that, according to his book, had sexual relations with his mother and Linda McCartney, raped a fan, consumed alcohol, heroin, cocaine and marijuana at a self-destructive rate, and possessed an uncontrollable temper that led him to abuse himself and his family on a regular basis." |

Giuliano is referring to a "real" Lennon that, according to his book, had sexual relations with his mother and Linda McCartney, raped a fan, consumed alcohol, heroin, cocaine and marijuana at a self-destructive rate, and possessed an uncontrollable temper that led him to abuse himself and his family on a regular basis." |

I FORGOT TO EDIT MY POST...OOPSIE!!! SORRAAY!!! IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ AND "UNDERSTAND" WHAT THE HECK I WAS TRYING TO SAY...HERE IT IS AGAIN...IN ENGLISH!!! HAHAHA!!! YOU LIKE CHEWED MY BUTT OUT ON A COUPLE OF POSTS HERE AND ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS... WHERE THE HECK WERE YOU WHEN I WAS POSTING HERE BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF OCT ?!?!?!?!? LOL!! I NEEDED BACKUP GIRL!!! I think you misconstrued my comments about "becoming enlightened". I honestly do not blame Gary or Amy more one way or the other about whose fault it was ...If you really want to know how I feel about the whole Amy/Gary/Vince thing then you should go read my threads..."Comments To OfInterst2Me"-last post Oct 12, and "My Apologies To Ofinterest2ME"-last post Oct 11. You can read them if you want to but I'll save you the trouble... I HAVE AGREED WITH EVERY POST YOU HAVE EVER MADE ON THIS NG AND I SWEAR I THINK YOU ARE MY TWIN SOUL!!!! HAHAHAHA!! I had never posted here before (or anywhere for that matter about the whole divorce thing) and had actually never heard of this NG until the whole dumb Primetime thing...After I saw that I was kinda annoyed because I thought PT was a little skewed towards Amy/Vince, and I thought to have made it more "fair to all parties involved" they (PT) should have allowed Gary and Vince's ex to respond as well. Anyways, I found out about this NG and came here just to see what every body was saying (however I did not see YOUR posts until a few days later AFTER I posted) and many of the posts seemed to be very Pro-Amy, esp. the one made by OfInterest2Me (thread Primetime comments). So after watching PT and being annoyed by all the Pro-Amy threads I responded with a thread of my own, and I swear it could be like YOU wrote it! HAHA! I was just trying to point out to the poster (who was coming down on Gary and vehemently defending Amy) that maybe both persons were responsible parties, and that each of them should bare part of the blame for their failed marriage. Well HOLY PETUNIAS! You would have thought I just committed blasphemy against the Lord Jesus by the way people responded to me!! HOLY CROW!! People were ripping me up one side and down the other...telling me I was judgmental, unforgiving, not a real Christian, blah blah blah...good Lord!! And then to top it off, I wrote an apology post... and the last time I checked, only ONE person on this whole stupid NG responded to me kindly and sincerely and accepted my apology! LOL! But * I * was the judgmental one??? ALRIGHTY... Anyway, the only reason I'm writing to you is to tell you... NOT TO BOTHER HERE!!!! It's no use girl. The only things that (most of) the people on this NG want to hear or read is..."Amy is so wonderful, and sweet, and nice, and wonderful, and sweet, and...Oh yeah, I know she left Gary for Vince but WHO CARES anyways because she is so happy now and it was probably all his fault anyways and...Amy is so wonderful, and sweet, and nice, and..." BLEH!! LOL! Good Lord Jessica...if you want to be entertained immensely then I suggest you come back to read all the comments that get posted to me after this!!! HAHAHAHA!!! And the thing is, it's not that I hate Amy or blame her for everything it's just that I don't think she was at all by any means blameLESS...and God forbid that I give my opinion about that!! No matter what has been said or written or printed about either one, or about who did what to whom obviously a marriage takes two to work) I think that they both contributed somewhat to their marriage problems. However, I completely and 100% agree with you when you say Amy refuses to admit any wrongdoing (as in the whole "I was never unfaithful to Gary with Vince thing"...not about her marriage/life in general). And I also agree with everything you say about the whole "You CAN cheat (emotionally) on your spouse even if there's no physical contact! I'm telling you, if you put my posts next to yours, you would think that the same person wrote them!! LOL!! Oh yeah, and just wait and see how many rude and nasty things (hi LaLa) get posted to me now about how I need to "give it up", "let it go", "get a life", "get on with my life", "stop acting so immaturely/childishly", "stop beating a dead horse into the ground", etc...OR the ever-so-popular-and-WAAAYYY-overly used response on this NG..."Did you come here by mistake? This is the Amy Grant NG you know...if you don't like her why do you come here??? Don't you have anything better to do than to waste your life worrying about a situation that has nothing to do with you? Why are you bothering to give your opinion when nobody here cares what you have to say anyway? I think you need to ask for forgiveness because you have just committed the almighty SIN of speaking about AG in a way that suggests she might actually be responsible in any way possible for contributing to the breakup of her marriage!!! Does any of this sound familiar to you, Jessica??? ROTFLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!! Sorry, but I can't help it! Everyone here (ok not EVERYone) is so freaking melodramatic!! LOL! Counting Down the Year's Top Videos Counting Down the Year's Top Videos Calvin Gilbert Bars and beaches provided the favorite settings for the year's most popular music videos. Give Alan Jackson additional credit for choosing a seaside bar -- and Jimmy Buffett -- as part of his video for "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere." The top videos of 2003 will be highlighted on the episode of CMT's Top Twenty Countdown debuting Wednesday (Dec. 31) at 6 p.m. ET/PT. It's still too early to reveal the actual order, but here's an alphabetical list of the artists and videos featured on the show: Trace Adkins, "Hot Mama" Adkins' video turns up the heat he established with "Chrome." In the song, he sings the words every woman would love to hear. However, because Adkins' character in the video appears to be taking such a complacent role in his home life, you have to wonder if he'd be fantasizing so much if he took the time to help his wife with the daily chores. Gary Allan, "Tough Little Boys" The song immediately grabs you, but the emotional message would have been ruined by obvious, sappy visual images. Instead, the lyrics hit even harder when combined with the footage of U.S. military personnel. Dierks Bentley, "What Was I Thinkin'" A new artist's greatest challenge is projecting an image that allows fans to connect a name and a face with a song. "What Was I Thinkin'" went a long way in giving Bentley something essential for all artists -- an identity. Brooks & Dunn, "Red Dirt Road" Anyone who grew up in a small town knew that youthful indiscretions were bound to become public knowledge. But it's a short drive to the relative privacy of that narrow road outside the city limits. From drinking a first beer to finding religious salvation, Brooks & Dunn reflect on the promises and lessons acquired during the early part of life's journey. Chris Cagle, "Chicks Dig It" Instead of youthful indiscretions, "Chicks Dig It" centers on the youthful stupidity of males in their never ending quest to impress the opposite gender. Of course, the truth is that males never really evolve beyond past this particular mentality. In the video, Cagle seems to be the first to admit this. Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Much has been written and said about director Mark Romanek's starkly stunning film that served as Cash's farewell. While many videos exist merely as clips to promote an artist, "Hurt" will be remembered as a genuine work of art from a talented filmmaker and an American icon. Kenny Chesney, "Big Star" "Big Star" is the perfect song for a concert in a large arena, so Chesney takes the star pose in the opening of the video. But the song quickly turns to the story of a young woman whose own path to stardom is, unfortunately, questioned by her jealous detractors. It's a big video for a big song. Kenny Chesney, "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" Chesney took to the beach and his boat for "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems." We lived vicariously and enjoyed a brief, if imaginary, vacation of our own while Chesney got his record label to pick up the tab for transportation to a place he was probably planning to visit anyway. The guy's a financial genius. Alan Jackson (With Jimmy Buffett), "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" Following Chesney's lead, Jackson also mixes business with pleasure -- a boat and the beach -- in the video for one of the best Jimmy Buffett songs not written by Jimmy Buffett. But Buffett makes a guest appearance on Jackson's recording and the video to provide viewers with some changes in attitude and latitude. Toby Keith, "I Love This Bar" Believe it or not, you can still find bars where the bandstand is protected by chicken wire. Most of the time, nobody wants to harm the musicians, although the screen comes in handy for any longneck bottles thrown in anger or joy at enemies and friends. It's been a long time since Keith worked the bars and clubs, but the song and video prove he hasn't forgotten the attraction of such institutions. Toby Keith and Willie Nelson, "Beer for My Horses" In the highly unlikely event that their music careers suddenly evaporate, Keith and Nelson could star in a detective series on one of the major TV networks. If anybody asked for an audition, the two singer-songwriters need only provide the video for this memorable musical collaboration. Martina McBride, "Concrete Angel" McBride is one of the few mainstream country artists willing to tackle difficult social issues through their music. And social issues don't get any more serious than child abuse. Music and videos can't solve social ills, but they can prompt thought and re-evaluation. McBride makes stunning recordings, but "Concrete Angel" carries the potential to make a difference in the world. Montgomery Gentry, "Hell Yeah" For whatever reason, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry seem perfectly at home in the heavy drinking and party atmosphere of a neighborhood bar. I mean, far be it for anyone to even suggest they have any experience in such an environment. Perhaps more than any act in the past decade, Montgomery Gentry understand the blue-collar crowd because they proudly consider themselves part of that very demographic. They prove it with "Hell Yeah." Joe Nichols, "Brokenheartsville" How could any country fan not love "Brokenheartsville"? Between the song itself and Nichols' vocals, it's a new twist on a classic theme. The video offers an added dimension, though, by revealing the truth behind the guy who drove away with Nichols' woman. By the end of the video, you're cheering when the baldheaded geek's Cadillac breaks down. Brad Paisley, "Celebrity" Easily the most clever and hilarious video of the year, "Celebrity" gives Paisley an opportunity to comment on America's fascination with the rich and the famous. Of course, he gets some help from some rich and famous friends, too, including Country Music Hall of Fame member Little Jimmy Dickens and actors William Shatner and Jason Alexander. Shatner's closing critique of Paisley's performance is classic. Rascal Flatts, "I Melt" Rascal Flatts made history when guitarist Joe Don Rooney became the first country artist to display bare buttocks in a music video. While the "I Melt" video was tame by rock and rap standards, the controversy became national news and made non-country fans aware of Rascal Flatts. So far, no other country artists have followed Rooney's lead. Shania Twain, "Forever and For Always" Twain is known for her elaborate videos, but "Forever and For Always" is an exercise in simplicity. Of course, it's hard to go wrong when you've got Twain singing a great song against a gorgeous sunset on a beach. Keith Urban, "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me" Whether it's a motorcycle or a tour bus, Urban is primed for the open road in this performance video. With some gnarly guitar riffs thrown in for good measure, Urban captures the essence of a man who has nothing -- and everything. Darryl Worley, "Have You Forgotten? Worley hit a chord with country fans when he released the flag-waving anthem, "Have You Forgotten?" when the U.S. was on the brink of war with Iraq. News footage is interspersed with Worley's performance of the song in a recording studio. For you trivia buffs, that's James Stroud -- the head of Worley's record label, DreamWorks Nashville -- playing drums in the video. Dwight Yoakam, "The Back of Your Hand" Most country songs about relationships deal with the promise of new love or the heartbreak of divorce. Somewhere between those two extremes is "The Back of Your Hand." As the song and video suggest, long-term relationships can be a blessing or a curse, depending on your frame of mind. In conveying the complexities of the emotion, Yoakam shows that he's aging well as an artist -- and as a human being. |

****************************************** Published Tuesday, November 30, 1999, in the San Jose Mercury News Ex-husband tells his side From Marilyn Beck, Stacy Jenel Smith and Stephanie DuBois in Hollywood SINGER/SONGWRITER Gary Chapman wants us to know he's hurt and dismayed that his ex-wife, Amy Grant, has been portraying their 16-year marriage as troubled long before her involvement with Vince Gill. ``That's not the case at all,'' insists Chapman, who candidly reveals, ``Our marriage had a rough start, because I had a substance-abuse problem. . . . But on Sept. 2, 1986, I stopped -- and through the ensuing years, we had three gorgeous kids and the world by the tail. So, this notion that our marriage was perpetually on the edge of death is completely erroneous.'' Chapman is responding to an article in this week's People magazine -- which also notes that Grant and Gill have been steadfast in their insistence that their relationship remained platonic until after their respective divorces. But Chapman, whose divorce was finalized in June, alleges, ``Since the beginning of 1994, they had what I would call an inappropriate friendship, which was destructive to our marriage. My family, friends and most of the people in Nashville who have at least two brain cells slapping against each other have known for years what has gone on.'' Chapman and Grant share custody of their children (Matthew, 12, Millie, 10, and Sarah, 7). He says the past year hasn't been easy for the kids, but ``they're doing so much better than I thought they would. They're the best example of God's grace that I have ever personally viewed.'' Pals say Amy and Vince Gill are destined to be together after she and hubby Gary Chapman split up. Singer Amy Grant and husband Gary Chapman are calling it quits after 16 years of marriage - and friends say she's turned to handsome Vince Gill for comfort. STAR has learned that Amy and Chapman are currently negotiating a deal to share custody of their three children and divide their millions. "It's a sad end," says a friend of the couple, who have tried counseling. "Their marriage is over in spirit, and will be legally too before too long." Meanwhile, Amy has turned for support to her old friend Gill, who left his wife last year after being married 17 years. "Vince and Amy have always denied that they've ever been more than friends," says a source. "But they're very close and talk all the time. "Vince is always there for her and has made it clear to her that he always will be." |

November 28, 1999 Bitter biscuits and Bag Balm By LEANNE CATER -- Ottawa Sun It's suddenly not all sunshine and lollipops for country music's newest "stuck like glue" couple. Recently I wrote about the fact that it's really no huge shock that Vince Gill and Amy Grant, both having finally been freed from the bonds of marriage, are proudly playing kissy-face in public these days. No shock, mainly, because there were plenty of rumours and much innuendo to suggest that the two were "involved" before either was divorced. While rumours are one thing, public testimony is something else entirely. In People magazine, Gill's former sister-in-law, Kristine Arnold (Janis Gill's sister and partner in Sweethearts Of The Rodeo), has stated that while her sister tried desperately to hold the marriage together, she would find notes in Vince's golf bag signed "I love you, Amy." In response to Gill and Grant's assertions that they were never unfaithful to their spouses, Arnold says, "just because people aren't having a physical relationship doesn't mean they aren't having an affair." Possibly even more damning are recent remarks made by Grant's ex-husband, Gary Chapman, regarding the demise of his marriage. When asked if he would say whether Vince and Amy were involved while they were still married he responded, "Could I answer that? Yeah. Will I answer that? Probably not. I suspect most people can add. It's embarrassing. I was dating the head cheerleader and she decided to go with the quarterback. I pray they'll have the life together they've both wanted for a long time." |

Back in 1965, Charles Schulz and Bill Melendez faced a rush job. Sure, CBS wanted "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The go-ahead came late, though; the work had to move fast. That explains the primitive quality. As Schulz recently told TV Guide: "A lot of the drawings are terrible, which Bill and I are still ashamed of." But it also explains something else: There was no time for the network to pry, censor or meddle. So all the rules were ignored. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" had light jazz music ... and real kids' voices ... and anti-commercialism ... and a passage from the Bible ... and - well, a point. By comparison, most of TV was smoothly and efficiently pointless. You can see the comparison on Wednesday, as CBS reruns "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at 8 p.m., then premieres "Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree" at 8:30. The latter combines Muppets, people (Robert Downey Jr., Leslie Nielsen, Stockard Channing) and songs. It emerges with something that's pleasant and forgettable. "A Charlie Brown Christmas," by comparison, is a classic for the ages. If you want more passion at 8 p.m. Wednesday, switch to Fox for the "Billboard Music Awards" or VH1 for a Bonnie Raitt concert. Or go to the Nashville Network for the latest round of "Sam's Place." Here are some deeply moving songs. Hosting is Gary Chapman, who knows the turf. He deals playfully with Steven Curtis Chapman (no relation), the blonde Christian-pop star. "I call him Squeaky," Chapman says. "He's so squeaky clean. I'm like I've been dragged through a mud puddle." He turns serious with Hal Ketchum (who has some sensational moments) and Alison Krauss. And he's at his best with Amy Grant - who happens to be his wife. Chapman grew up in smalltown Texas, the son of an Assembly of God minister. That shaped his sound ("we were very rowdy musically") and his approach to life. You can forget the notion of men closing their feelings, Chapman says. "Early in my life, I saw my father being honest and external about his emotions." Soon, Chapman dropped out of Bible college and became a songwriter. He promplty realized this was the right choice. There was "Sweet Jesus," which came to him in a blur. "It was as close to a real spiritual experience as I've ever had. It was as if I stepped off the curb and was hit by a song-shaped bus. And there was "Father's Eyes," which Grand put on one of her albums. They had never met, Chapman says, until the record-release party. "Like every other guy in the room, I fell in love with her," he says. "But I was the only one who asked her out." She said no - possibly because she was dating the guy standing next to her. "She did give me her phone number, though." Like most good couples, they are sometimes opposites. "I tend to blast through stuff," Chapman says. "She tends to think things through first." They do share a career intensity, he says. "She is so focused." The key part is being with their kids, ages 8, 6 and 3. The family tours together and Chapman has a studio in the barn. "It's kind of like planning a war," he says. "It's, `You'll go there, I'll go there, the kids will be over there; we'll all meet somewhere.' Somehow, it works." Their eldest child, Matt, even shows up on Wednesday's special, bearing Christmas cookies. "He IS Opie," Chapman says. "I tell you, sometimes I look at him and think I'm in Mayberry." A Photo sometimes make it hard to mask feelings. They look more like lovers than friends or soulmates. Maybe Amy and Vince has the same definition of a sexual relationship that Bill Clinton had. My opinion of Vince's divorce is that Janis had a "smoking gun" in order to get the settlement she received. Vince may also have capitulated to keep Amy from having to testify. Amy may wind up giving the" ship" to Gary in their settlement, we shall see. It is hard to keep high profile divorce settlements secret for long. |

| Comments: | Dear CCM--
Wow! Was that article about Amy Grant or Bill Clinton? Her relationship to Gill wasn't adultery; it was just "messy". I'm glad your aticle set me straight on that. I find it odd that you would interview an unrepentant person to get the truth and expect an honest answer. I don't care whether their was "sex" between Amy and Vince, by whatever definition she holds behind her (lyin') eyes. There was an affair of invested time, emotional energy, thoughts, hopes and dreams-- inappropriately placed outside their marriages--which she defensively acknowledged. Jesus made it plain--if you look on a woman/man in lust, you've done the deed already. You guys are so Amy-Friendly, you didn't dare ask her that bit. Did you ask her how she defines sex or adultery, which to most reasonable people besides President Clinton, would include, but not be limited to, any "platonic" friendship that just grows and grows and grows and, as such, causes distress to your spouse-- i.e. golf, guitar lessons, appearances, clandestine getaways after celebrity baseball games that wind up photographed by the tabloids, Christmas concerts, duets. Yada, yada, yada. There is a time for mercy , but there is equally a time for a swift kick. Which should be seen as any less loving. Amy herself shared about the unwelcome visits and good talking too's she got along the way. She didn't like it, but she realized the intent and her need for it. What kills me is the fallout in her family and beyond. And the message being sent by christendom to side step our responsibility to clean our own house; to just hurry up and skip the correction part and go straight to the mercy part. Step into Janis and Jenny Gill's, or Gary's shoes. Imagine Gary's 6 summers of hell watching this thing unfold. Imagine the enormous need for justice He has to quietly wait for God to meet out. The Amy Grant Newsgroup has been cruel beyond words to him--completely partial to Amy, disregarding the fact that Gary was betrayed. Behind the Eyes must have been so dehumanizing for him. There is honest and their is cruel. BTE falls under the cruel category. Aside: (It would have been better locked in your safe, Amy, with your diary and the other things you think oughtta be taken to the grave with you) I haven't gotten rid of my whole collection, but the "Prozac and Razor Blades/I'm so bummed to be with my husband" album went to the used cd store a couple days ago All of this flies in the face of Amy's claim that She and Gary were just too different. That she is a "mercy" person. Oddly, she has shown Gary and Vince's family no mercy. Princess Diana said in her famous interview with the BBC--you see, there were three in this marriage. It was a bit crowded. You can "try" as hard as you want. You can get all the counselling in the world. But what good will it do when in your heart of hearts, your deepest thoughts, longings, and desires are somewhere else--with someone else?
Any photo can be enhanced to make it appear different. Since it was Vince's lawyer who brought up the "letters" my feeling is that there weren't any, Janis was just using that as a tactic to get whatever she could out of Vince.(Gee , maybe Janis can hand the letters over the back fence to Gary) My thoughts are that there weren't any letters, unless Janis had some from her friend. Both Vince and Amy were willing to testify under oath that they did not have a sexual relationship- that should make you believe them- I don';t think either of them have a lying bone in their body. I don't know what kind of relationship Amy and Gary had. But I do know that for the last few months of their marriage, the Gills were very troubled and most of that was from things that Janis did and said to Vince. She always wanted more and more, and when he refused to move from their "simple" home to the mansion that she wanted, she took her anger and revenge out on him. Apparantly, she found someone rather quickly who caters to her every whim and desire. Their divorce records were supposed to be sealed and all parties signed a confidentility agreement, obivously money talks and files were opened. As far as Vince's relationship with his daughter the main reason he probably wanted the records seale was so that she did not find out what a bitch her mother really is. Vince and Jenny spend a lot of time together, and he would cut off his right arm before doing anything that would harm her. There are a whole lot of people in Nashville who think very highly of Vince and Amy- one dj who is close friends with Gary, but just acquainted with Vince even said on the air "that Vince Gill is the most decent person I know" It is too bad that all this crap has to be brought back up. |
