A lot of new names and very few who would know me I've been in Colorado for almost 5 years now. Started out as a volunteer and went through there rookie academy working to gain certs Firefighter I, II, Hazmat Awareness, Ops, Tech, 1st-Responder (never should have let my EMT expire), ICS 100, 200, 300, 400 and now working on all the wildland certs I'm a FFT1 ICT5 CRWB-T, ENGB-T and have taken strike team leader and safety officer classes but have tons of work to get my taskbooks done. | Comments: | Happened by your site researching older Fire Dept exterior emergency sirens.....I am a retired police officer from the Itasca Illinois PD...We shared quarters with the Itasca (at that time) VFD and the Itasca Village Hall...Mounted atop the village hall on the roof was a big old whaler (siren) like yours it was sounded when the aid of the FD was needed and at noon at 12PM.....Sure bought back a lot of nice memories to hear a siren like that again, many many thanks...Good Luck in the future, and all of you take care...... |

I'm now in the City of Geneseo Fire Department. I have now gotten my Illinois FF2 to match my Arizona FF2. | Comments: | Your website brings back fond memories of my youth (1950-60's) when I used to hitch hike from New Canaan to Vista to hang out with my cousin Don Finney of East St. Also...as I understand it, my grandfather Milton Fitch Sr. and my father, Milton Fitch Jr. (born in Lewisboro/Shady La ?)were implemental in starting the Fire Dept. and also helping to rebuild after the great fire. I know that my mom still has a picture of the fire (same as yours) and I "think" the man in the middle facing the camera is my Dad...(not sure, but it looks like his face). My Dad was honored as Parade marshall during your 50 yr. celebration. He was a long time member of the New Canaan FD and of course...we made it all of the Fireman Carnivals, in the field by 123 & East St.. They had spin the wheel chance games for 5 cents and of course cotton candy. In my later years...I learned the terms..beer garden, church key, makin' a run to Vista, bar tender Lefty and of the course the Three Pines. Speaking of Page, sorry to see that Joe moved to N.H. I know what its like to struggle to afford a family size house in such an affluant town. I really miss the F.D. and old friends in the Westchester fire service. I stay in touch with a few people in So. Salem and heard about their new (greyhound bus), I mean rescue truck. Hope they don't get it stuck in the mud - which S.S. is famous for. Anyway, I read the Ledger every week and can see that the fabric of the town is changing. Now they want to buy the Bell property for 8 million. Sounds like a pipe dream - how they'll raise the money for that is a good guess. That property has been for sale for years and now the Land Trust thinks the residents can go deeper into their pockets to buy it. Go figure. We'll, nice to chat with you guys.
