| Comments: | Dear Richard, My Name is Bassam Khoury, I am originally from Lebanon. I am living since 1998 in Montreal, Canada. I am a Software Engineer and a Psychology Honors Student. I was born and grew up in Lebanon during 17+ years of civil war. I witnessed horrible genocides in my country and memories are still fresh in my mind…I knew what violence, war and human destruction can bring. Dear Richard, sometimes ago, I knew you only from movies as most people do. As many of your true fan, I do like most of your movies. However, recently I knew you on a much deeper level. In my psychological studies at Concordia University and my extensive readings in both psychology and philosophy, I got across the ideas of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I went further reading books about him and his great teachings in true love and compassion. His Holiness became bit by bit a source of knowledge and inspiration to me. I started to investigate the relation between Buddhism in general (and meditation in particular) and the human well-being (like increase of positive emotions and behaviors: love, compassion, helpfulness…and decrease of negative emotions and behaviors: anger, hatred, violence…). Also I started meditating with a Buddhist group here in Montreal, Quebec at Rigpa (www.rigpa.ca). I also started some research about that and I am working on developing computer programs using both western and Buddhist psychology in the aim to help and assist people that are suffering and enhancing the quality of life for all people. For that reason, I started an organization for that purpose, it is called: Tech4Mind, web site is registered, but not yet build. Last Saturday evening, I assisted at a Buddhist “Tsok” at Rigpa and we were discussing some issues regarding Buddhism and the Tibet centers in North-America and they mentioned your name, so at the first time, I was surprised because I did not have any idea about your life other the one portrayed in Hollywood media of a successful actor. So, yesterday, I started researching you via the internet. I spent many hours, I was really inspired and deeply moved about all what you have done for humanity, I am really out of words. This is really amazing. You are a model for the youth and an inspiration for all generations. I tried to have your direct email to write you a word but unfortunately couldn’t find, the only thing I found is this guest book, so I am using it. I hope that this message will get to you. I wanted to contact you to say big thank from each child, woman and man you helped. Thank for you high ethics, and deep convictions. We truly need people with knowledge and compassion like you. I also like to tell you that I am following the ideas of His Holiness and I will be trying to launch a web site in both Arabic and English to get the words of His Holiness across the Arabic world and to change the violence and hatred that is accumulating in the Arab world with love and compassion. Arabic youth deserve a better future, a future that is not build on hatred, violence and destruction but on love and compassion. If you like to participate in any way to that effort, I will be more than glad to have you on board. Also, I will be in the next meeting of “Mind and Life” in November at Washington DC, I don’t know if you will be there. If yes, I will be really honored to meet you. Destruction and hatred seem sometimes very powerful in this world, however as His Holiness teaches us, love and compassion are much more eminent and powerful. I not only love him and pray continually for him, but I also have 2 boys that truly are lookalikes and would be fab in any movie he may need a boy in. From what I've seen of his beautiful son my sons look more like his. Yes I'm proud that they are not only handsome they are just as talented. I have seen Richard 2x and messed up both times, someday Lord willing I'll at least get to have a hug from him. My soul loves him and I to this day don't understand. He seems devoted to the Dala and I am devoted as best I can to Christ Jesus. If I was granted to be his loving wife I would travel w/him passing out KJV of Gods Word. Now men like Richard, in their fifties, are seen as handsome and attractive as men in their thirties. Richard is so versatile as an actor, musician and human being. He is one of the few glamour people I look up to for their humanitarian work around the world. God bless Richard and all his family. I am very happy for he and Carey with the birth of little Homer. If so, did you know he starred in a musical called DAS RHINEGOLD. It was written by Jim Steinman (Yup! That guy who writes all the Meat Loaf songs) and he played the role of Loki. Barry Keating directed, with supporting cast: Sarah Harris & Ellen Parks. It played very briefly at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Public Theatre, in 1975... I'm not really a Gere fan, but I was wondering if you had some info on DAS RHINEGOLD, 'cause I happen to be a very big fan of its author, JIM STEINMAN. |
