| Comments: | Again, I am sorry I missed your birthday party. As a reminder, here's the letter Daddy (your brother Eugene) was to have delivered to you from me:
Dear Uncle Corry – Congratulations on our milestone; I am really sorry I can’t be there in person. My earliest memory of you is the day you bought Daddy’s 1950 Ford, which was 10 years old, at the time. I have some pleasant memories of that car, like peering out the large holes in the rusted out back floorboard, while Daddy drove. Remember the two tone paint job? It was blue, except where the blue deteriorated to expose the red primer. Come to think of it, if you count the rust where the red primer had deteriorated, it was really a three-tone. In retrospect, I’m not sure who I should have worried most about -- Daddy for selling such a pile of junk to a family member, or you for being naïve enough to drag it home. I know you, as many of your brothers and sisters influenced by your former pastor, Reverend Clyde Presley. I saw him shortly after his 83rd birthday. He told me that on that morning, as he had done every morning for over 60 years, he had done the same number of push-ups as his age, adding one each year. Uncle Corry, drop and give us 80! The Lord has blessed you in many ways – long life, good health, a lovely and loving family, successful children, a rewarding career, educational success, a lovely home…and…a full head of hair with no gray! Those of us with less hair, and more white hairs each day, like me, are probably most jealous of that. Confession being good for the soul, I’ll close with a sad admission. You may recall that when you retired from your career in education, I asked your plans for retirement. You said that you intended to break a 35-year-old bad habit, and quit “waiting until Saturday night to get-up” your sermon for Sunday morning. I really admire you for that, and I want to know how you did it. You see, I wait until Saturday night to get my Sunday school lesson up. Maybe it is a family genetic trait, and you, one of our patriarchs, could found a support group for the rest of us. Congratulations and best wishes, Dale |

| Comments: | Lois directed me to your web site. I enjoyed the 80 pictures and the video. What a wonderful and full filled live you and Virgina have lived. I learned a lot more about you two than I knew before. Good luck with the remaining years of your retirement. Love you Corry and Virgina, Wayne and Mildred |

| Comments: | Everything everyone said about you at the party is true.
I also think you picked an excellent wife. Obviously, the Good Lord had a hand in that decision. I have the best parents there ever could be. Love, Your baby girl. |

| Comments: | Hi, everybody.
It was great that so many family members were able to attend Dad's 80th birthday party. There were 63 of us there. That is one of the things that made it such a very special event, and let me once again thank each of you that came. I know many of you made special efforts to be there, and we truly appreciate it. ...After we said so many nice things about Dad, I was thinking about things he's NOT good at. I was only kidding about his skill as a fisherman--actually, I know he is a very savvy fisherman (though we did have a lot of trips with little to show for it). But one thing Dad's absolutely abysmal at, as I'm sure he'd utterly agree, is singing. In every church he pastored, the music people never worried he would muscle in on their territory! In fact, one of the pictures in the slideshow was of him singing with two elderly ladies in church--that was something he agreed to do as a kind of dare if the church would meet some goal. They did meet it, so he sang...and was NEVER asked to do so again! . . . Hope you all enjoy the photos. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the pictures others took--please send 'em our way! If you'd like to print an image from those I've posted, just let me know and I'll send you a higher resolution file by email (the versions of the photos on the web page are lower resolution and might not look that good if printed, if you want the best quality for framing or the like). Again, thanks to all for helping us have an unforgettable evening! Feel free to jot notes and comments in this online guestbook! With love, Walter |
