HB 137 - Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle GENERAL BILL by Lopez-Cantera Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle: Provides additional penalties for certain offenses committed by person operating or in actual physical control of motorcycle; requires person be taken into custody; provides for seizure & forfeiture of motorcycle; provides for revocation of person's privilege to operate a motorcycle. Effective Date: October 1, 2008. In a nut shell: Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: Section 1. Section 316.1926, Florida Statutes, is created to read: 316.1926 Motorcycle offenses.-- (1) When a law enforcement officer charges a person with reckless driving in violation of s. 316.192 or exceeding the speed limit by 30 miles per hour or more in violation of s. 316.183(2), s. 316.187, or s. 316.189 while operating or in actual physical control of a motorcycle, the officer shall arrest the person, take him or her into custody, and seize the motorcycle, which shall be subject to forfeiture under the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act. (2) Upon conviction, in addition to any other penalty provided by law, the court shall revoke the person's authorization and privilege to operate a motorcycle for a period of 10 years and order the person to surrender his or her driver's license. I don't know about you but forfeiture of my 'SCOOT' for 30 mph over the speed limit is a severe price to pay; not mention 10 YRS of being forced to drive around in a cage! | Comments: | Went to the thunder by the bay event this past weekend. We were (4 of us) very disappointed at the $20.00 cover charge at the convention center. For this we got nothing, just admission to see the same thing we saw for free on sunday in downtown sarasota. Yes there were live bands, but no one paid them any attention. When will these people learn NOT to charge cover at bike events? I am sure the vendors there were not happy with the turnout. Then they charged us $4.00 for a draft beer!! Please advise the powers to be we will not be back for that event unless they make some changes. Greed has caused many a bike event to go under, dont let this happen here. | Comments: | GMAN - I saw a post you put on the BTR website and I wanted to communicate with you personally. We DON'T charge a cover at bike night on Thursdays. Our bike night's hours go from 7pm-10:00pm. We are packed for those hours then the bar empties out like someone hit us with a plague by 10:30pm. Most folks riding bikes have to get home and get up for work. The bar is open until 3am though. That's 4 solid hours that we can run another promotion and attract a different crowd from 11pm-3am. We in response to this dip in business during those hours have introduced NICKEL BEER from 11pm-3am and we charge a $5 cover for that time starting at 11pm. NOT for bike night. If you are there for bike night as a patron we "grandfather" you in anyways and you can hit the Nickel Beer for no cover. Call/contact me personally and let me know if I can do anything to make right the wasted trip you made to the bar last Thursday. Come back up and let me buy you dinner and some drinks for the trouble. We pride ourselves in giving our guests the best service we can provide and running the hottest Thursday Bike Night in the Tampa Area. Let me show you what we can do. I apologize to anyone that was given the wrong information about Bike Night, and let me try to clear it up for you. Bike Night is from 7-10pm, and the BIKE NIGHT is and always has been FREE and awesome. We have an outside patio bar, and great drink and beer prices. We have vendors, a large projection TV outside for sporting games or movies, and games including the slow race every week. We also do Import and American bike of the night, and a raffle with 50/50. The bike night ends at 10pm, but I usually play music outside until 10:30. AT 11PM, LA Hangout starts what is called Nickel Beer Night. For this, they charge a $5.00 cover charge, then you drink draft beers for a nickel all night until closing. This just started last week. It was geared at the later night crowd, and all bikers that are there by 10:45 are there for the night without a cover charge. I beleive you may have arrived after that time, and the young bar staff may have misunderstood the rules for bikers. I hope you will give us another chance, and come enjoy the best bike night in N Tampa from 7-10pm. | Comments: | Great Site Great night. Just one other comment, Went to LA HANG OUT Thursday night. It was raining but rode over anyway. Everyone I met here in Tampa said it was one of the better Thursday night stops. This Thursday was not. Rain has never been a deterrant but the "NEW" $5.00 cover charge was. I went back through this months issue of BTR and read their entire add and could not find anything about a new cover charge. When we got there and had to stand in the rain in line we asked the girl taking our money about it. We said when did you start to charge a cover? She laughed and said "Tonight". My friends and I wont be back. There are better places to go with no cover. Might I recommend Ukulele's over on 41 in Land O Lakes at the intersection of Hale Rd and 41. I have never been a complainer but a little advanced warning that they were going to add a cover to their bike night would have been nice. |

Recently we have worked with Jekyll Island Authority in Georgia on several occasions for events all over their Island. We have hosted events for them including the 4th of July two years in a row (for approx. 2500+ people each year) and Classic Car Shows, As well as their Shrimp and Grits Festival (for approx. 13,000 people over 3 days in the off season)! Not to mention various other events such as their annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony including hosting live bands and concerts. In Florida we have worked with Bars in Downtown Orlando including Slingapours and Loaded Hog on Wall Street, Mission Inn Howie In The Hills, Baldwin Park Easter Egg Hunt (for approx. 700 children) and The City Of Maitland Events, The Country Club of Mount Dora and many others. Earlier this year we hosted an Motorcycle Ride for Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary to benefit the families of fallen officers., and our most recent Motorcycle Ride for the U.S.O.
