| Comments: | I'm from Pennsylvania where we desparately need a good Italian restaurant. How about opening a place in Allentown?
Ate lunch at Papoo's today while on business in the City. The food was wonderful, the service pleasant and attentive, and the atmosphere very inviting. And, a good value to boot. Best of luck in continuing your familiy tradition for the balance of your 15-year lease and beyond. I'll be back the next time I'm in the fianncial district. Regards, Hank Narrow |

| Comments: | Congratulations on your new Restaurant! I am writing this little note with tears in my eyes (today is Sept. 11 2003). My husband and I worked for MANY years at the WTC and ate so many times at your lovely and small Restaurant. We enjoyed it so much! The best stuffed shells... I remember your lovely Mother! Welcoming us, and us waiting at the bar during cold Winter days for a table. You were always to busy at lunch time!
Eventhough we live and work in New Jersey now, I look forward to eat at your Restaurant soon. (You should open on Saturdays!). My Best to you! Good Luck and Fortune you deserve it for your hard work. |

| Comments: | I was introduced to, and fell in love with Papoo's back in 1980 when I worked for DLJ at 120 Bway. A friend and I would go there almost everyday for lunch to have their "out of this world" manicotti (Dave Silva was the best)and a carafe of wine. A short time later, all our friends from Paine Webber and DLJ looked forward to Papoo's as our second home every Friday night after work. We sat at the bar together till the wee hours, and often times I could swear that fabulous manicotti was calling my name!
Nick was extremely generous to his regulars. He opened the restaurant sometimes on Saturdays when we played softball. We had the whole place to ourselves and we'd get to eat and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of a New York city afternoon. What heaven! I remember the night of Feb 28,1983 when the last episode of M*A*S*H was being aired. Nick closed the restaurant early so we could sit, eat and enjoy the show with each other. I remember thinking how proud and special I felt, how many restaurant owners would treat his regulars like this? It was the best feeling. I later moved out of state and when I came back to visit with my husband, I found that the place had changed a little. I went on and on to my husband of all the wonderful times I had there. I wondered where Dave Silva had gone. It felt so great to see some of the old waitresses were still there, and then I saw Nick's Mom. She looked as beautiful as she always did. Seeing her smile felt as though no time had passed at all. It felt so good to be back. My husband raved about the food as well. I was heartbroken when I found out Papoo's had been damaged by 911. It was indeed tragic that people lost loved ones, but when I saw for myself what it had done, not only to my city, but to Papoo's, my second home, I felt an anger so deep and personal. I had hoped so strongly that Nick would be able to restore it, but having read the stories online shortly after 911, about what Nick went through trying to get a loan, it was shocking. I knew Nick wouldnt stand for it and would persist. I knew how much it meant to him and I thank God for his perseverance and faith. It brings such a comfort to me that he stayed in Manhattan. I am due to relocate back to NY this year, and Papoo's will be my first stop. Thanks Nick, for bringing the magic back and always making us feel right at home...in your home. |
