| Comments: | You will be please to know that Robert F Haas's granddaughter "Nu-Rhee Agnes" chose to honor Robert F Haas by giving a talk at her school about her grandfather. On her own initiative I was surprised that she found this website and surprised even me with her presentation. It is this act that gives me hope that the deeds of my father and friends and those who made the ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten.

| Comments: | POEM DEFINING "SOLDIER"
I WAS THAT WHICH OTHERS DID NOT WANT TO BE. I WENT WHERE OTHERS FEARED TO GO, AND DID WHAT OTHERS FAILED TO DO. I ASKED NOTHING FROM THOSE WHO GAVE NOTHING, AND RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE THOUGHT OF ETERNAL LONELINESS ...SHOULD I FAIL. I HAVE SEEN THE FACE OF TERROR; FELT THE STINGING COLD Of FEAR; AND ENJOYED THE SWEET TASTE Of A MOMENTS LOVE. I HAVE CRIED, PAINED, AND HOPED ...BUT MOST OF ALL, I HAVE LIVED TIMES OTHERS WOULD SAY WERE BEST FORGOTTEN. AT LEAST SOMEDAY I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I WAS PROUD OF WHAT I WAS... A SOLDIER "Author unknown" Airborne Soldier 'What manner of men are those who wear the maroon beret? They are, firstly, all volunteers and are then toughened by physical training. As a result they have that infectious optimism and that offensive eagerness which comes from physical well-being. They have dropped from the air and by doing so have conquered fear. Their duty lies in the van of battle, they are proud or their honour and have never failed in any task. They have the highest standards in things, whether it be in battle, or smartness in execution of all peace-time duties. They have shown themselves to be as tenacious and determined in defence as they are courageous in attack. They are, in fact, men apart. "Every man an emperor" ' Field Marshall Montgomery |

| Comments: | I think I may have served with one of your sons named George Haas. It was 1984, we had a guy attached to us from the 82nd Airborne and it was an exchange program. He was a really good guy and a hard worker. I think he was from Queens, NY but it was hard to tell because he rarely talked. After seeing your photographs I can certainly say that he sure does look like you an awful lot. He even wore his steel pot tilted the same way you do in your photographs.
Keep on keeping on Brother!!!!! |

Fred remembers Hector Polland (sp) and "Slim" McGheechan (sp) from his unit. If anyone remembers Fred, please email me and I will pass it on to him. I served 2 tours in Korea after the war. | Comments: | I really enjoyed speaking with you the other day. You have
a great web site that really gives us a flavor of what it was like in Korea. As the 40ID historian I've been privileged to meet many of our veterans. For what you did and the character you posses, you too are a part of our country's "greatest generation." Thanks for your service; you will always be a part of the 40th Infantry Division, we are proud of you. |

| Comments: | First, I would commend Bob Haas on his service and
contributions to our nation in defending us against communist aggression and for his bravery during that conflict which provided a chance of hope in asia. Second, for providing a website, of a war whose veterans and fallen are too often forgotten and lastly for his deeds which have made the 40th ID an organization (of which I'm formerly a member) I'm proud fond of. Currently with SF Fantastic photos and though the site has so many features that my eyes are alittle overwhelmed it's an exciting one. |
