I just googled lyomiosarcoma and found your page. I was diagnosed with this form of cancer today. The process started about 2 months ago, so this is all new to me. I looked for your bio on this page, but could only find comments. I will keep you in my prayers. Keep on fighting!

Comments:I am glad that Luke is doing well. My 17 month old son was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms in early December. He has had 1 kidney removed. He recently had a third operation in which his last kidney was removed from his body, surgically resected and radiated while outside his body, and then tranplanted back in. He seems to be doing fine, and is going in for his last chemo treatment today, according to the protocol. He is being treated by great doctors and surgeons at Lucille Packard in Stanford. Please pray for him, as we pray for Luke and other Wilms patients.

Comments:Luke,

We loved your home page. We especially liked the great
pictures. Do you feel famous? I am glad you shared so
much information, it really helps other kids who are going
through a tough time too.

My daughter Stevie has a different kind of tumor. Hers is
in her brainstem. She just had her first operation and
that was kind of scary. She really didn't like the
hospital and really hated the food! She couldn't wait to
get all the tubes and catheters out.

Stevie is home now and doing really great. She is suppose
to start radiation next week and she is a little bit
afraid. We came upon your website by accident, and it
turned out to be the greatest thing! Your story was very
inspirational.

We hope you will continue to get better and better and
always be well. You and your family are in our prayers.

Love, Stevie and Gina

Comments:Hi Luke! Thank you for sharing your encouraging story. I
couldn't have read it at a better time. Our 20 month old
son, Ben, is right in the middle of his treatment for
Bilateral Wilms'. It's always nice to hear about a
positive outcome. He was diagnosed on May 15, 2000 and has
been treated at Marshfield Clinic since. He's a strong
little boy and has had very few side effects to the
chemotherapy treatments to date. His next surgery will be
in late October. It's likely he will have the entire right
kidney removed and part of the left as well. Thankfully,
the cancer has not spread to any other organs. The
oncologist and surgeon are very pleased with his progress
and response to the chemotherapy treatments. The tumors
have shrunk by half! I never thought I'd hear myself
saying this, but I love his chest tube. It's saved him a
lot of unnecessary pain and fear of all of the procedures
needing to be done. I can't imagine how difficult his
visits would be if that element of fear existed.
I'm glad that you are now doing well and wish you a happy
and healthy life. Thanks again for sharing your uplifting
story. You're an inspiration to many!

kidney. She also has some spots on her intestine. We are
always so very frightened, and really have had a hard time
finding other children with bilateral wilms. Mary Caitlin
is a fighter; she has to be as she is facing more aggressive
chemo and will also start radiation. We don't know what the
future holds, but we pray for her and children like you
everyday. Please let me know if you will be needing a
kidney transplant some day. May God shine down on you and
give you His strength.

Comments:Hey Luke, guess what? You have now officially used up all
your bad luck for a long time to come. You can now jump in
there and really enjoy life.... and whatever you do, you
should not, can not, will not feel sorry for yourself. That
is simply not allowed for tough guys like ourselves. You
see I had the big lump removed myself. Just on my right
side but the bad stuff spread to my lungs and that was in
1960 before they really knew much about chemotherapy. Back
then they mostly nuked you till you were well done and then
sent you home. My family doctor had just read about the
funeral of the last Wilm’s kid from my area who had not
lived by x-rays alone when I showed up. So he did some more
reading and decided to send me up to Boston's Children's
Hospital to see how much trouble I could cause up there.
It's now the Dana Farber Cancer Institute I think. Turns out
they were experimenting with chemotherapy. Lucky me.
Between the chemo, the x-rays, the needles, my sore side, my
lack of hair do and more snow than I had ever seen back in
North Carolina I had decided someone was out to get me. But
after I quit throwing up and after I finally stopped
thinking I lived in a waiting room I started to feel pretty
good and I still feel pretty good. I took the worse they
could dish out and I hung in there. I played baseball,
learned to drive, went to college, kissed a girl, got
married and I now have two very healthy boys of my own. So
my advice to you and all of those like us is to keep your
chin up and keep plugging. One last thing, you probably
already know this, but it also helps to talk to someone when
you do feel a little down. Like your Mom or Dad or the big
guy upstairs (you know - God). They know how wonderful you
are.

Good luck and God Bless!

Comments:Luke,
I was amazed at your story and very proud of you. Unlike
most who read this, I too had a Wilm's Tumor. It was
discovered when I was only 7 months old! I lost my right
kidney and later, part of my stomach - a result of the
radiation treatments. But the good news is that this
happened to me back in 1958 (back in the time of the
dinosaurs)!!! I am a cancer survivor for 42 years! I just
wanted you- and your parents- to know that I lead a VERY
normal life, I'm married to a wonderful person and have a
really cool job too! I know you will do wonderful things
with your life - you've already accomplished so much. I
also know your Mom and Dad are great parents - mine were
too. Good luck to you and hang in there!!! I'll be
thinking of you.

Comments:Dear Luke -

Thank you for sharing your story on-line. You are very
courageous! I am a grown up and a Mommy, and also a long-
term survivor of Wilm's tumor (I had it when I was a baby
and only 10 months old, so I can't remember anything, but
my parents and family still talk about it often). I am glad
you are doing so well, and will share your story with my
child when he is a little older and can understand. All the
best to you and your family,

Comments:Hi,

My name is Tiffany. I have bi-lateral wilms tumors too. I
am in remission. I have been in remission for 2 years now.
I got sick when I was 4 years old. I also had a bowel
obstruction. I am doing good now. I have half of both my
kidney's left (double partical nephrectomy"s) I have a
nephrostomy tube in one kidney because it can't drain into
my bladder. I have to wear a bag for that to drain in. This
kidney only has 18% function left. I will need a kidney
transplant someday. Do you need one too?

I am so happy to find you, I have been doing this for four
years, and you are the first person I found with Bi-lateral
Wilms! I heard about a little boy in New York that has Bi-
lateral wilms, but I don't know his name. He has two half
kidney's just like me too. We have a doctor that follows us
both is how I heard about him. I hope he and you are doing
well. I hope everyone is! I don't like having cancer, but I
have met a lot of nice people and made a lot of special
freinds.
I was thinking we could write each other sometimes, I know
you might have a lot of people to write already, but if you
get time to write me, I will be very happy to hear from you!

Did you hear about The Miracle Kids? You can put your story
there on a page. It is neat. I am having a page made now.
It will be there in a week. It helps raise money for kids.
I hope my story will help other kids. Your story helps me,
I don't feel so alone. I know two kids with wilms in one
kidney from my hospital ( Motts childrens hospital in Ann
Arbor Michigan) but you are the first I can talk to with Bi-
lateral Wilms. I am happy to find you. I am sorry you had
to have wilms though. I wish no one ever had to be sick.
I hope you are doing very good. I think it's very special
people want to help kids like us, it makes me feel very
good and loved. I wish I could send all of them a thank you
hug! I hope they know they are special too! I will say a
prayer for you. Love Tiffany

Chemo and radiotherapy she was given the all clear. All was
well until October 1999 when a tumour was found in her
liver. Sam is currently receiving chemotherapy and is

she will have surgery to remove the remainder of her tumour

i came upon your son't homepage as somewhat of an
accident. i'm going into my senior year in high school and
i'm doing a graduation report on Wilm's tumors. your page
greatly touched my heart. you see i know the pain and
heartache your family went through with Luke's cancer. My
baby niece was born on October 13, 1997. in April of 97
Alexis (my niece) was diagnosed with wilms tumors. as like
in your case it affected both of her kidneys. she was put
through immediate surgery in which they removed her left
kidney and 1/4 of her right. afterwards she underwent
chemotherepy and radiation. she was said to be "cured". but
not more than a month after this miracle cure it was
discovered that Alexis's cancer had returned and spread
throughout her entire body. the doctors sent us home from
Children's hospital of Philadelphia that night with a
prognosis that she wouldn't survive till morning. well
Alexis fought for 6 weeks until the cancer was to much to
handle. My beautiful baby niece died on the night of August
24, 1998. She was 1 year and 10 months old. not a day goes
by that i don't think of her of wish to kiss her little
forhead again. i am so happy to hear that your story had a
happy ending and i wish for Luke to live a long and
prosperous life.

My 3 year old niece was diagnosed with wilms tumor in

chemotherapy treatments, 14 radiation treatments and
surgery for removal of her right kidney and central line
she is now cancer free. Children are so resilent. She was
also artifically fed for the past 9 months through a nose
tube but now that has been removed. Keep up the good work
and enjoy your life!!!!!

Comments:Hi Luke,
Its been a year since Rochelle's last chemo treatment, and she continues to do well. She has had no medical problems, but has fallen behind in her school work. we're looking for others who have had similiar issues and maybe how they got through this period. If you or anyone else has experienced this, please contact us.

God bless.

Comments:Luke,
You are a brave boy. My grandson, Justin, was had a wilm's
tumor at age 15 months old. The tumor and left kidney was
removed. He had 18 weeks on chemo. That was 2 years ago
this month. He has done very well. All check ups had been
fine so far. This past week he has the chicken "pops" as he
calls them.. I hope and pray that you have a very good
life. Love & prayers

Comments:Hang in there Luke. My daughter Lauren celebrated 10 years
since her surgery to remove a three pound Wilms tumor in
1989. She is doing wonderful and has grown into a
beautiful teenager. As a matter of fact, the most
important thing in her life right now is learning to drive
our family VW. We will keep you in our prayers.

Just wanted to say hello to a brave little boy. Hope you
are doing well. I work on an oncology unit and I know you
have had a hard road to travel. Keep the faith. All
things are possible through prayer.

Admiring your strength,
