Found your page when trying to identify a troll I have. I am not collecting these myself but would be more than pleased to send this one to you if you like. Have no idea who she is...Maybe russian made? Clone-troll anyway. Sorry, cant add a pic here - if you want I can email a pic. Your site was a great help anyway althoug I didnt find her: we have a troll-tradition here in Finland and I didnt know much about these lovely collectables (I am into vintage clone barbies and Lillis myself). I have seen these finnish trolls...maybe I could get you one :) ? |

| Comments: | I love your website. You have really put a lot of work into your collection. The information is great, the most informative I've ever found.
I am 50 years old and still have the first troll I ever got when I was about 6 or 7. His hair is a little ratty but otherwise he's hangin' in there. I got excited about trolls again a few years ago when I was buying some for my niece. I am in the process of making a troll "Christmas village" for the holidays. I just thought it would be fun for people to walk up expecting a traditional Christmas village and instead see a world of trolls. I have just ordered 4 more xmas type trolls from ebay. I already had 5. I am really having fun with my trolls just as I did when I was a little kid. Jody K. Bowling Green, Kentucky |

| Comments: | Greetings from Denmark!
We have been so fond of your site, viewing all the lovely pictures of the many, many different Dam Things - aren't they all just so lovable?! We have collected Dam Trolls and Things for many years and have always loved the fact that Dam was Danish - We never knew how popular Dam was abroad though - that's so amazing and your site has been such a help too on that area! We're about to send you an email with more info or many more Dam Things and creations, which you do not seem to have anywhere on your site :D We hope we can be of some help and that you in return, can teach us something about Trolls abroad - that would be awesome! Thanks for a great site! Best regards from Casper and Malene in Denmark. PS: As January equals clearing and cleaning out, we are currently having many items at eBay. During the next weeks we will add many vintage Dam things, if they are of any interest :) |

| Comments: | Wow, what a GREAT site! I was one of those children who hurried in at dusk so the trolls wouldn't get me (Swedish grandmother!). My wife has a 2.5/3-inch troll with blue eyes and a tail that is wearing a pin-stripe suit from the early 60's. I will have my daughter take a picture so I can send it to you. We can't remember if it was a Dam or not, but she has had it since she was a kid. We found your site while looking for troll information after buying one at flea market in Germany where I am now stationed. This troll is an 8-in. female (round ears) in original (riveted) costume with a rotating head and marked "1961 190918 Denmark". We have not peeled off her clothes to see if there are any other marks underneath. Write back and give us an email address to send pictures. |

| Comments: | Hi, Im 48 years old. I started collecting Trolls when they first became popular back in the 60s. Till my mother found out they had DAM printed on the back, and then decided we should play with GI joes and Hot Wheels. Me, my brother and sister each had a vinyl case full of Trolls, next to Lava Lamps that was my favorite toy growing up. I no longer have that vinyl case and most of the trolls but i still got my first troll,a white haired old grandpa Troll with yarn wrapped around him like a toga(still says DAM on his back). I now have near 200 trolls because somebody has to rescue them from these old thrift stores and garage sales.I would like to meet other like minded people who see things this way---->maybe we could get together and create a "Troll Rescue Team". | Comments: | Trolling for a fad
Ugly '60s doll gets a makeover: Big hair, bigger marketing David Sheff New York Times Jan. 6, 2005 12:00 AM In a nondescript Burbank, Calif., office building and in far-flung studios in Luxembourg and China, as many as a thousand animators, editors, sound engineers and the like are hard at work on what they intend to be the next obsession of 4- to 8-year-old girls. Their handiwork involves an unlikely makeover: They are reinventing Trolls, the big-haired dolls once compared by the comedian Jimmy Fallon to Don King on Viagra, as Trollz, saucy little creatures who borrow a dollop of Phoebe from Friends and a dash of Summer from The O.C., and whose personalities are an unlikely mix of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh and Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. Trollz come packaged with an ethic, summed up as "B.F.F.L.": Best Friends for Life. And they certainly have a look. advertisement "Instead of doing the post-Janet Jackson, Britney Spears thing, we went for Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson," said Estevan Ramos, a stylist who was hired to help create Trollz for DIC Entertainment. A planned fad In the coming months, the company plans to unleash its progeny in a media blitz that begins with their debut on the Web, at Trollz.com in March, said Andy Heyward, DIC's president and chief executive officer. At the Web site, children will be able to explore Trollzopolis, play games, chat with and cast spells on their friends. Books and toys are to follow in July, with cartoon collections on video and DVD coming in September from Warner Home Video. In October, a cartoon series will begin broadcasting, and by next Christmas, if Heyward is lucky, a well-orchestrated pop phenomenon will have taken the world's children by storm. Parents may find it difficult to connect the frizzy little monsters of their childhoods with Topaz, the ditsy blond Trollz, or Onyx, the world-weary Goth "antifashionista," with purple lipstick and multiple piercings. But the creatures share a kinship. Humble origin Trolls originated with Thomas Dam, an impoverished fisherman, bricklayer, baker and woodcarver who was crafting a birthday present for his daughter. On the desolate island of Gjol in Denmark, he carved his first elfin troll, inspired by local lore about creatures that dwelled in the Nordic forest. "He modeled its ugly face after a local butcher," said his son, Neils Dam. "My father owed this man money, and this was his revenge." One winter, to supplement his meager income from shoveling snow, the only available work, Dam peddled his carvings door to door. When they sold out, he made figurines for displays in department store windows and more troll dolls, which he named Good Luck Trolls. In 1959, he began mass producing the dolls, making them out of rubber instead of wood and gluing on carded wool hair that had been dyed white, black or carrot orange. He began exporting them in 1960. Tens of millions sold. They were selected by the Toy Industry Association of America as the Toy of the Year in 1961. Dam died in 1989, and Trollmania subsided. The Dam Co. was approached by Disney, Pixar and other entertainment groups that wanted to license the characters for the sort of expansive, all-media treatment that has become routine for fantasy figures in recent years. Heyward got in touch with Dam in 2003 and secured licensing rights. Starting the revival Heyward began to plan a Troll revival, making a deal with the Play Along Toy Co. to sell original Trolls while DIC worked on the Trollz. Hasbro won an auction for the rights to produce the dolls. Neither Heyward nor Lorrie Browning, Hasbro's general manager of girls' toys, would reveal the winning bid. "We loved the updated and funky look," Browning said. That look includes midriff-revealing shorts and tops, and an attitude to match. It remains to be seen if young girls will be won over, or if the makeover will backfire by erasing the essential quality of the original Trolls. |

Hi, Was doing some research on a toy I found, and came upon your page. I have found and sold trolls from time to time when I find some better older ones. Anyway, to make a long story short I recently found a Lovable Uglies Lion Figure, yours was the first site that I saw them mentioned and you had a couple of photos. You say they were made in Hong Kong, which I'm sure is true. However, my Lovable Uglies looks quite different, and it is still tagged and claims to be made in Japan. It is a figure of a lion and has a paper tag still hanging around his neck which is shaped like a heart. Written upon the tag: The Lovable Uglies with Movable Heads-Japan. His will spin around 360 degrees, and has grotesque features. I didnt see this particular type of troll or troll-like item mentioned on your site, was wondering of you were familiar with this line or figure. Regards, Ed |
