I am a white woman ministring in a small African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church in southeastern Indiana. As part of my seminary training, which earned me a Master of Divinity (MDiv) last year at age 54, I served a 2 year spiritual direction internship which helped me learn to listen with my soul both to myself and others. My desire is to bring peace and reconcilation into a world torn by fear, violence and distrust - one glorious, luminous person at a time. As a seminarian I also worked as a volunter Prison Chaplain, at a men's max. security facility in Kentucky, working mostly in the prison Psych ward. It was an intensely spiritual growth experience. Each of the guys, rapists, murders, drug dealers carried within him the light of Devine Love. For many of them, as with so many of us, it was hidden, buried under layers of darkness, sin and dispair;but the Divine Spark is ALWAYS there. Of course, YOU, O Magificent One, already know that. As I was walking down the street overflowing with love and joy, a young teenager past me looking tense, frustrated and slightly angry. The egocentric me said, don't say anything to him because he's in a blue funk. However, the spirit filled part of me shouted out HE'S BEAUTIFUL A PERFECT CREATION OF THE MOST HIGH LET HIM KNOW. This voice was so clear and so forceful that I just could not ignore this inner calling to reach out and be touched by someone. So I yelled hey could you come here. We walked towards each other and I said, as you passed me by you looked kind of sad I just wanted to tell you how BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE!I asked him do you know how beautiful you are, he looked at me not knowing what to say. So I said again, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT DO YOU KNOW THAT. This time he lifted up his head slightly smiled and shook his head affirmatively. With that I wished him a great day and he shuffled on his way. Okay beautiful may have been a little to sweet for a boy, but gosh darn he sure looked beautiful to me. And you know what so do you all even when you have an upside down smile its ALL GOOD! |

I made my way to my computer just before 6 am. I received mail from DivaCarla, and started to enjoy looking at her wonderful paintings, following that trail to Magnificence Mail, collecting websites and links along the way for a client of mine, and I realized: I am magnificent because no matter how bad I may feel, I always find the Light.

As I climbed up the grutty steep mountain, my chocolate knees started trembling and melting under the hot scorching sun. Not once, not twice, but three times I felt like I had one foot in the physical world and one foot in spiritual world. One slip would mean certain death or serious injury. Why I climbed Bell Rock, Boynton Canyon and Cathedral rock to be honest I really don't know. All I know is that I had to and in the end I have been transformed. I could go more fully into detail, but for now I'll just leave you with these two statements that keep on repeating in my mind no matter where I am or what I'm doing. They bring me comfort and strengthen my warrioress shield.

And that is just the start! how about the God wink of my friend walking down the street with her sister, telling her about my art work, looking up to see me in a coffee shop window, coming in, introducing us, and I have a commission! I am magnificent because I took them at their word, I trust, I play and I allow the Universe to deliver in the most fun ways! |

Another young person in my little town killed herself last week. 19 years old. At least one teenager a year, and sometimes 3 or 5 commit suicide in this town every year. Less that 5000 people live here! I drove out by the pond she lived on, with her parents and brother. There was a huge circle of hundreds of candles out on the ice. Beautiful. So much love expressed. Why do our children not know they are loved? Why do they not feel love for themselves? Magnificence has taken on a whole new urgency for me. Mother Theresa once explained her work taking in the dying untouchables from the streets of Calcutta. Her purpose was that one time before they died, they would know they were loved. In the classroom at the high school where I attended a dance class tonight, there were lots of posters admonishing kids to be the best they can be, the value of effort, the importance of achievement.
