Hi...We wandered into your gallery today, Sat,8th Nov., and were most impressed with your work and your story! As a budding artist, 9 months into the game, I was amazed to learn of your ascent into the art world 17 years ago. You have an incredible technique and determination to represent wild animals as they truly survive in nature. It was most exciting to learn that not only have you made this career change successful, you also have had the pleasure of traveling the world and have enjoyed seeing these animals in their true habitat. Good for you! I do not aspire to such heights, however I am truly enjoying discovering how painting can enhance my outlook and my life and give me so much pleasure.
We (all four of us) found your story so interesting....and your painting ain't so bad either!!

I am an artist myself and would like to become a knowned one too but I have no idea how to proceed. Because I don't have a lot of spare time, working full time to support my wife and two kids, it is hard to start because I know it cust a lot to make reproductions for instance. You can take a look at my temporary site and I would appreciate comments and advices.

Thanks a lot, Serge Dufour

I was awe struck by how realistic the paintings were and very envious I might say, of the talent that it must take to create the masterpieces there. I have a passion for photography and would love to be able to paint like that and after reading your bio I might just give it a shot. thank you for the inspiration :)

I visited the gallery last year on a 3 month visit to Canada. Someone recommended I vist the gallery during my visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately Edward was not around as he and his wife were in India, but the lady in the shop was incredibly helpful and friendly. The toughest part of the visit was narrowing my purchases to 3!! I bought "Kicking Back" and "Time to Rest" for myself and "Gentle Touch" for a friend. As I was travelling the lady, promised that the pictures would be packaged properly and sent home to the UK together with all the additional paperwork. It was a lovely surprise to get home and see the prints waiting for me safely. I have since recommended the gallery to friends who are looking for presents for themselves and others and I will certainly be buying more once my feet have stopped roaming.

Fred has been kind enough to have some of my pieces displayed. I told him please not to put them near yours. Your work is absolutely amazing. Instead of inspiring me I felt envy. I am doing a workshop with Daniel Smith next week and I guess I hope to become an instant "artist". I am in such a hurry to finish my art as I want to see the finished product, I realise the more detailed it is the more realistic, right?

Hello Mr Spera, You don't know me but you just met my husband Ken Archer in Yellowstone. He told me about you on the phone and then showed me your brochure today. WOW!!!
You are an inspiration to me. You see I started sketching in the early 90's. I too am self taught and when we moved
from Colorado to Washington I tried watercolor. Then I started combining watercolor and pastels and fell in love with it. My husband Ken is always trying to incourage me to do something with my artistic gift.I have always put my family first and felt I never had much time to do what I love but our kids are older now. Anyway if you have any advice I would greatly appriciate it. You mentioned a place where you learned the knowledge you needed to help you get where you wanted to be. What is this place. Again I want to thank you for sharing your gift you are truly an inpiration. It would be a privilage to met you and your wife someday.
Thank You

Dear Lisa and Edward,
...remember - of Bandhavgarh ? evening - and on the jungle-road ? I will start to send you interesting files about the situation of TIGER's from the perspective of Researchers;
...I do hope that you journey had an good end - Benny and myself we recorded 75 hours about the subject of "Human's and Tiger's" - all is now at the post-production in the studio; will see when the film is coming out - end of the year; at a moment we have a discussion with people from the discovery-channel.
...on India-Lion's - there is havy poching at a moment; we will see how things are going on; there are always more and more "bombings" in India - the security-level of the country is really going down. Interesting is, that in Uttar Pradesh the most populated country in India a women
won the parlament-voting - she is from the loest cast !!!
...it means also - a steady revolution is still going on;
think about :
500 Million people are poor in India
400 Million of them cannot read and write
300 Million are very poor
those people are opposite of the success-story of those who are moving the country forward into a modern society;
At the end of this note - the pictures are coming soon !
take care of you - and it will be funny to meet you again
on any good place on earth - or in Canada - or in Hamburg
where we are living.

With best regards Dieter

http://www.tigersinthewild.com Hi Edward and Lisa
It was nice to meet up with you both at Bandhavgarh and I hope that you will have enjoyed the remainder of your time in India. I had a great sighting on my last day-I witness the Chakradhara sub adult tiger making a kill of a small Chittal deer only to loose it to her bigger brother. However he also subsequently lost out as shortly afterwards B2 their Father appeared and they both fought for about 30 seconds and then the youngster gave way to his Father who stole the prey and then devoured the lot! Do drop me a line and let me know how you got on and perhaps maybe we will meet up again. Best wishes
Mike

Your paintings are magnificant. The ape from you Wellington Gallery show and the elephant are so real. I have been painting with Ron Decker for a few years now. I hope the quality of our art can some day be half as precise as yours. Excellent job.

i have got a intresting thing for you, if you want to have some thing with domestics elephants, your most welcome. i belongs to a professional elephant owners family. at present we have got 21 elephants. i think you can have here those things which you can not have in wild. because somethings are very specials in elephants which you cannot get to know till then you will not be too close to elephants as a friend.

A friend and I visited your gallery today at Niagara-on-the-Lake and was fascinated with your work. We thought your work was exceptional and your ability to capture the eyes of these animals, you have an awesome talent.

I plan to purchase your works in the future. Specifically the little otter on his back. Having seen these little guys myself on the Pacific Coast, I think he liked you.

Congratulation, you are a very talented man.

I just found out about you today! Your paintings are wonderful. I hope to be able to purchase your panda bear soon. I was wondering if you would ever paint our "Spirt Bear" in British Columbia? I understand that they are becoming extinct. There is a wonderful young man Simon Jackson who is trying to save them in their natural habitat. I would be interested if you ever do paint one.

It's not so much "do I want one of these paintings".... But, "how can I possibly pick just one!!". Absolutely beautiful!! I cant wait to hang one on my wall! My parents have already started a collection (kicking back otter, and moose) and I hope to follow suit. What I am really waiting for is a hippo to add to my home. I absolutely love them and am having the hardest time finding a painting of one. I know you would do a absolutely wonderful job capturing their adorable features! I'll keep my fingers crossed as I know you are in Africa right now! It'll be worth the wait, I'm sure!

Now back in Sarasota FL, it was our pleasure to 'discover' you and your shop in Niagara on the Lake last Friday the 11th. We spoke of G Whiz and our admiration for John Seerey-Lester (and Suzie of course!). Your work is marvellous. We admire your take on conservation. Kathy and I wish you the best of success and hope to see you down here at the next 'naturalist' art show. Didn't mention last week that I met John S-L originally via a friend here who was John's rep/agent when he was in the UK. Meantime, take care and watch out for low doors and big teeth!

Hi Edward - A friend and I met you on Saturday, July 15th, and I purchased the beautiful canvas of the Bengal Tiger - "Heir to the Throne". I can't say in words how much I love this piece and admire all your work. I also think it is so wonderful that your wife, Lisa, is the person who made you realize your God-given gift for creating such beautiful art and bringing these amazing creatures to life.

We really enjoyed hearing your stories and I will be in touch to get much-needed advice from you and Lisa about my planning a trip to Africa. I realize more than ever now, that I have been putting this off too long - a trip to Africa has been a dream of mine for a long time now.

Thank-you so much for taking the time to talk with us and to sign the back of the "The Heir of the Throne" for me. It really means a lot.

Hope to talk to you and Lisa soon. And special thanks as well to Shelley - she was most interesting to chat with and it is great to see her genuine admiration for your work.

I myself work in acrylic while studying painting at Brock University. I was always told that with acrylic you cant achieve the high realism. Hi Ed & Lisa
I had to pass this story along,... I was in an office this week (I'm a drug rep) and I was admiring the physician's artwork. When i mentioned that I was interested, he brought me into his office to show me his pride and joy, and low and behold it was a 'SPERA' piece.
I happened to see that you will be NOTL next week, and I quickly contacted this physician (Dr. Peter Gleeson- Fort Erie) to let him know.
Small world.
Hope to see you over the summer. I'll keep in touch and coincide a date with my mum & dad.
Best wishes for a great show (we will be in Florida- i hope to catch your next local one)
Regards,
Angela

Hi Edward

Looking forward to seeing you again at Stonechurch. Will you have any LE prints with you ? The vertical Cheetah is intriguing.

Best regards
Brian

It was great to meet you both at the Sarasota show.... Your work is extraordinary and while I will be starting out with some prints for decoration, I definitely want an original sometime down the road.
Best wishes, and keep those cocktail napkins handy~!
