Comments:hope someone can help me out, 1984 xr250r top end noise, replaced rocker's still have the noise. removed the head look's like intake valve's are hitting the top of the piston, but not hard enough to hurt piston or valve's. valve adjustment is by the book. bought the bike with the noise.can't find out if the origenal owner done anything with the valves or cam. need the spec's for valve heigth,cam lobe higth,and piston higth.or any outher info abought the xr250r. thanks. great site

I had a friend of mine tell me about this site so I had to check it out. Good to find a such a large following to the xr community. To be honest I've only been riding a week. Dumped the bike once hitting a berm too hard. Other then that its been more fun then I could imagine. I'll check back for updates and other goodies for my bike.

Fitting flat dome high compression piston,aluminium swingarm, chain tensioner using skateboard wheel, bracket and spring, blank industrial sprockets machined as per original, 530 pitch industrial chain (for wheelie purposes-wheelie all day and no effect on sprockets as is the case with originals) and some other bits and pieces.
Where does one get trick/race parts for hotting up these old tractor kings. I want to rebuild one and have to start from scratch (bike included). Any help ???

Comments:Howdy! Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and have been riding bikes in the Arizona desert since I was 8. I'm 46 years old and my brother Barry is 48 and we ride our XR650R's like there's no tomorrow. We enjoy passing the 2-stroke wing dingers on desert roads at 90+ mph.It's my humble opinion there's no other bike out there that compares to the XR650R for shear open desert riding. Comments:I recently bought an XL250S at a bargain... well I thought it was at the time, only now it's costing me a bit to get it up to roadworthy. I would appreciate it if you had any suggestions, so far I have got new indicators for it, a new headlight, brakelight, brakelight switch, and new hand grips. I need the following parts but am finding them hard to get... speedo + cable + mount, wiring loom, choke + cable, complete exhaust system + muffler, air filter, battery holder, footpegs (the old ones look like the originals - bent and worn out), but most of all, it needs a set of new rings to start with, and the gearbox needs to be fixed as when you put it into 1st, it jumps out of gear. I live in ballarat, and have had no luck in getting the things I require, I know that the xr250 up to 1983 is vitually the same, but still no success in getting what is needed. I would appreciatre it for any help you could give.
At the moment it is really frustratinig, as I only get the weekends to work on it when I am not working around the house. and it is noe stating to cost me more than originally planned.

Comments:The best I've gotten is is 87-90 mph out of my xr650l. I'm a 160lbs rider and my bike is outfitted with Big gun full race series pipes, K&N jet kit, K&N air filter and top snorkel removed. I have forever been looking anyone who has gotten full dashboard speed with or without modds. At 85mph the bike's front wobbles like crazy and your required to back off the gaswhen this happens.
In a few weeks my Big fin Head from xr's only should be here along with high compression piston (J&E), Camshaft (Hottcams), carburator (elderbrock), Oil cooler (src), full exhaust system (superttrap's supermotard series)and steering stablizer (scott's stablizer).
I'm shooting for the big 130-140mph, and I'd like to get her up in forth gear off throttle. She'd better be able too.
I owned a klr before but once I rode the xr650l for the first time jet kit an all, "my balls got big"!!!!, needless to say I was later put in my place.
The beating I suffered to the "klr" should have never been,so I'm headed back for revenge.
Sure it's all for fun but down here the man with throttle to spare is king!! and it's good to be the KING!!!!!!!
P.S. Remember one wheelers, "Stay on the GAS with one hand on the throttle and one the girl's a%#"!!!

Comments:love this site i'm currently working on a 1985 xr600rf the bike has been in my family (extnded family) since 1987 when i picked it up from a friend for my brother in law who could'nt afford it at the time... at that time i had a yz490.Anyway, after a few years of riding together my wife had unfortunetly past away leaving me with my son and daughter needless to say the riding stopped the yz was sold and i had more responsibilities than you could shake a stick at.well it's been 5 yrs now and recently my brother in law and myself accompanied my younger brother to his second ccs event where we saw 5 motards goin at it wfo my nipples were hard as rocks!!! my brother knowing, that this is what i used to live for and could'nt help to notice the drewl and also knowing i could'nt afford a new bike turned to me with a huge smile and said bro take the xr and do something big with it. ya know the old say'in what goes around comes around or even better.. give, and you shall recieve. believe it!!!!the xr transformation so far: it's been stripped completely, frame and engine bead blasted. frame repainted stock orange.all plastics have been sanded back to show room cond using 220,320,400,600,1000,1500,and then polished with a hard rag & many hours of rubbing. i polished the swing arm triple clamp and forks, answer pro tapers cr hi, little head work,little bottom end,couple tweaks on suspesion still working on what to do for wheels and tires can't afford exel or akront maybe relace an old xr 17" rear to my stock front hub and run the fatest tires possible so after all... i guess what i wanted to say is do good to others!! because somewhere sometime someone will do good to you! may your front tires allways point upwardly and effortlessly!! amen... greg brown daddyo2721@netscape.net

Comments:What's up with no xr650l's. Here in Colorado they are the perfect bike for boulder bashing to old mine sites and ghost towns. Mine is a 2000. I've added an 4 gallon Ims tank , a Ims smog block off kit, an arcebis molsoft tailight, renthal bars, and a supertrapp Isd2 race series pipe. 1997 tank graphics and arcebis front fork and disc guards round out the beast. I added more aggresive rubber and changed the front sprocket to a 12 tooth. It also makes a great commuter to my job downtown or to the light rail station. Any takers for the ride down into Georgetown on the trail the forest service told me was unpassable. The trick is I'm able to ride the beast back to Denver on interstate 70.

Comments:I just had a look around the site and found it's the best one i've come across,lot's of great info.I currently ride my 2001 XR400 to work which is about a 30km round trip,what i like to know is would anyone like to tell me of a good allround tyre for road/trail use.As much suprise to most of the guys i have been riding with out bush & road.That the tyre's that came with the bike when i brouhgt it (IRC's)have lasted just over a year and done over 7500kms..I would rather her back from fellow riders than hear B/S from salesman who would sell their own mother,just to get a buck.

Comments:Great site. I own a xr400 and have done a few mods to greatly improve both performance and reliablity. The choke butterfly has been replaced after it failed thankfully whilst trying to start and the offending piece closed the plug gap. Secondly 2nd gear died before doing and further damage to the gearbox. A mod really worth looking at is to press the auto decomp off the cam and press on a spacer in its place. Starting is dramatically easier and eliminates the decomp cutting in at low revs and stalling. We ride around the Yackandandah area in north east Victoria.

Comments:I'm looking for other riders in the Las Vegas, NV area who likes to ride everywhere offroad. I own a '93 Honda XR-600R which is steet legal. I update topographical maps for the U.S. Geological Survey and want to explore the few areas I haven't yet explored or return to areas I have been, ANYTIME.
