Please feel free to contact me if you can add anything to my knowledge of the Groton Bridge & Manufacturing Co, or its associated companies.

Also, I have a single e-mail from someone who claims to have another Groton traction engine, so there might be more than just my engine surviving!

Comments:I'm glad to read historic info about Groton and residents old and new! I lived on Main Street (1950) over Pete's soda shop near the hotel (and kindergarten at Miss Fish's house)to many years at 201 Williams Street. Spent grades 2-3 at the OLD school on Church St, then 4th at the Main St. school before SCM owned it. Enjoyed grades 5-12 at the new jr.-sr. H.S. Left in 1962 for places in NY and then KS since 1970. Returned with my parents in 1985, then more recently alone, staying at the B & B (former Gale house) on Wms. St. Betsy and I now both live in Wichita.

Comments:I am the owner of a Groton Traction engine that was built in Groton, NY in 1891. To my knowledge, it is the only Groton traction engine left in existance. There is a portable Groton engine in storage at the Ford Museum in Michigan. I would be interesting in finding out more about the history of those who built the engine.

Comments:thank you so much for a nice web site... and a wonderful town! my fiancee and i purchased a beautiful house on south main street this summer and are just enjoying everything- from sitting on the front porch with the greetings of all the folks passing by- to sitting on the deck of the hotel and chatting with the other guests- to sharing words from back yard to back yard with neighbors, this is a lovely place to live. Thanks to all who have welcomed us with open arms, and to all of Groton for making this the community that it is.

On another note... if anyone has any information regarding the house that we purchased- the history (though we've heard about the fire, which is horrible!)- we would appreciate it- both Garrett and myself are very interested and intrigued...

Again, our sincere thanks to all!

Hi,

Iam back from Colo.

Thirty some years for Corona. The greatest place to work

I remember Kero's butcher shop John"s Grocery store and
Market Basket, the ice cream parlour in Jones's Drug store We even had a shoe store
From Cortland to Groton you could count the places on
one hand
In 1945 the snow was so high we were the last car from town and we had an old model T there was only one lane of
traffic The place has a new look and time marches on but it is nice to look back

Living in Groton

The purpose of the "Living in Groton" blog is to post news, events, and experiences about and for the citizens of the Town of Groton, Tompkins County, New York State. I have started this blog because of the lack of coverage in any extensive way by such local media as the Ithaca Journal. the Ithaca Journal does not do an adequate job of covering news and happenings in the town in any depth. If you are interested in becoming a contributor, send me an e-mail at bill.drew@gmail.com with the subject of "Living in Groton." Also, please help me get the news out this project to the appropriate places.

I live near McLean and am related to the Satterlys, Armstrongs, and Carringtons.

Comments:I enjoyed this page very much. You asked for ideas and I think I have one. My fav page is the pictures of the Baptist meatinghouse, the only thing missing is a caption telling about the rooms being shown. Like what was each room used for, what are the articles in the room, who may have used them that was well known in the comunity at the time. A short story about the heritage of the building. That kind of thing. Thanks for a wonderful page that is a tribute to Groton legacy.
