In 1974 EMI Pakistan produced a unique work on Hazrat Ameer Khsroo (RA) with a title of "A Tribute to Khsroo" at the same time India EMI produced an album on the same occassion which was contributed by Dr. Zoha Ansari with his tribute in words and Murli Monohar Surp as Music Director. The singers late Mukesh, Sudha Malohotra and others contributed with their voice. I have this Album which I want to present to your Sufi Music collections. I also had the albums produced by EMI Pakistan on the subject and these albums 5 were on 35 RPM long play. Unfortunately I lost part of my collection and these long plays records were also the part in loss. | Comments: | I have translated in English verse 100 odes of Hafiz which are being published in the form as a book called - Hafiz, the voice of God - and will be available at amazon.com by the end of April 08.
I have also completed the English translaion of 100 odes of Khusro and the manuscript in ready for publication. The title of the book is Khusro, the Indian Orpheus. The preface of the book is as follows: Khusro was born in India in 1252 AD as Abul Hasan yameenuddin. His father, Amir Saifuddin, was a Turk from Central Asia and his mother an Indian Rajput, the daughter of the then Pime Minister Amad ul Mulk. His father died when he was young and he was brought up by his maternal grandfather in affluence. Both Amir and Khusro were his titles, of which he adopted Khusro as his pen name. During his lifetime he became a favorite of kings and princes and was loved by the great mystic, Khaja Nizamuddin Aulia of Delhi. He was burried next to him when he died at the age of 73 years in 1325 AD. He grew up to be a great poet-musician of all times, with the magical qualities of Orpheus of the Greek mythology. He invented several enduring musical instruments and wrote mant famous ragas. Since his father spoke Turkish and Persian and his mother Hindi, he was fluent in all three and this helped him invent a new language - Urdu - which is a mixture of those yhree languages. It is now spoken by about four hundred million people in the world and is also the official language of Pakistan. He wrote profusely in Persian, Hindi,and his new language, Urdu, but much of his writings has been lost, though part of his Persian poetry, mainly odes, among others has survived. Translation, by its very nature, cannot capture the taste and flavor of the original. It is impossible to translate the beat, the rythm and the flow of Khusro's odes in another language. However, I have tried to preserve some of it by translating his couplets as couplets. Khusro is a romantacist par excellence. He loves women with all their faults and especially beautiful women with faults: Oh, praise the Lord, the holy and pure, the maker of us all For made He you from dust and clay a crafty, lovely doll When he yearns and craves for them he can make us cry: Oh, how can I this rainy night without my darling sleep When everyone is weeping here, weep I and clouds weep Without you, darling, the gardens are in grip of doom and gloom So shining brightly in the dark, my sweet sunshine come to me When he discribes the women's faults, he becomes delicious: Cruel she is but don't call her that Call her a lady though she is a brat No one but her for me will do Although she is a perfect shrew I know a beauty who likes to boast Of a beau to fry, and a lover to roast He also advises us: If she is yours because you are greedy Better it is to be lonely and needy And if she is yours because of money She is no honey, and it is not funny And if she shows no mercy, no pity Delay you not and leave the city And he uses his favorite preacher to admonish us: When I fell in love the preacher said "She is a predator; you'll soon be dead "You are a believer; she'll send you to hell She is a remorseless infidel "Without her you will be in pain And she will leave you again and again "But you're in love; you have taken the bait You must now KHUSRO resign to fate But he cannot also help turning to God: I would rather be sinful, bad and flawed Than be a saint and be a fraud The kings, O KHUSRO, don't you applaud Just have in your heart the love of God And finally; And when I am dying she'll say - gee whiz What a hapless lover my KHUSRO is ============== |

Ghulam farid ayaz al-hussaini belongs to the best known gharana of qawwali, namely; “ qawwal bachon ka gharana “ of delhi. This gharana, approzimately 705 years old, was stafted by saamat bin lbrahim, the principal student of hazrat amir khusrau. The eminent Gahanna has produced famous us tads like the late us tad tarns khan, court musician and tutor in classical music it abrader shah afar the last mogul emperor. In the present generation of this Gahanna are farad ayes al-Hussein and party, nationally and internationally acclaimed as one of the best gadwalls of the sub-continent. Farad ayes started his training in classical music and await at a tender age under the rigorous and critical tutelage of his late father us tad raiding khan, who himself was an outstanding classical musician and away and a recipient of the president’s pride of performance medal and was bestowed by many other honors by the government of Pakistan. Farad ayes are an accomplished musician in the genre of classical music and wait in the traditional classical nag. He has been performing professionally for the last 30 years, and not only has performed extensively at the national and international level but has neon a cultural representative for Pakistan at numerous Pakistani missions abroad. Farid ayaz and party have performed in the united kingdom, USA, france, Germany, ITALY, Holland, Portugal, Austria, India, Kenya, Nepal, Zimbabwe, bangle desh, croatia, tukey morocco Greece, Egypt, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Belgium iran UAE Saudi Arabia Jordan and many others. Farid ayaz has total mastery over various genres of classical music, such as, dhrupad, khayal, tarana, thumria and dadra which he blinds beautifully during his performances of qawwali. His mastery over classical music was acclaimed at the all Pakistan music conference annual festival (feb 2005 ), where he was invited to perform as a classical singer and not a qawwal. Farid ayaz is well versed in several languages and can ably perform in urdu, sindhi, Punjabi pushto, hindi, poorbi, bangle marathi, Persian Arabic and Turkish, in addition to Japanese.
