| Comments: : | we have had several "weiner" dogs over the years. honestly, each and every one of them were "special" in their own ways and were real members of the family. one of the traits that dachounds all seem to have in common is the ability to bring lots of laughter and joy into the household. we have two in this "father and son" household. we have "lady bug" and cleopatra (cleo). when my mother passed (june 2005) i learned what "grief" felt like. i couldnt seem to stop the tears. there was one day when my grief came over me again and the 2 dogs sat down side by side to each other and looked up at me with such understanding in their eyes that it caught my attention and i was comforted.
after a horrible experience losing a beautiful red doberman pincher that was my companion for 15 years, i swore never again would i let myself get "attached" to another pet. i did real good for several years untill cleo and lady bug came along and stole my heart. now cleo is having some back trouble and has lost her ability to stand on her back legs. i can not describe the affect this has had on me. for sure, im handling this worse than the "patient". i have been greatly encouraged by Nyssa's story and others that are going through or have been through this. i have learned that it isnt the end for this sweet, stubborn, loud, heart stealing little love muffin. thank you so much for sharing Nyssa's story with us. i am comforted and hopeful because of you. |

| Comments: : | THank you for this page-- my little Trixie is having back problems again-- she had surgery at age 4, to fenestrate almost all of her vertebrae, and yesterday, we found that she had injured it again-- she is 12 years old, and has done well, for the last 8 years. We have her on cortisone right now, it is the second day, and she is hurting- can still walk, but is in pain. The vet's xrays showed that she is in very good shape, for her age, but her back is inflamed in one spot. We pray she will get better again-- but this is SO hard, as you know-- your story of Nyssa is sweet, and loving, and hits at my heart-- thank you for sharing her wonderful story with me. |

| Comments: : | I'm going thru so much grief right now that I don't know which way to turn. My mother died on May 31, 2005 from Breast Cancer which she battled for 5 1/2 years. Several days later my "Grandma Daschund" either jumped off or fell off of my bed in the middle of the night and hurt her back. She has already had back surgery in 1997 because she ran into my mom and dad's tire chasing a cat. She had immediate back surgery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is now 14 years old and still going strong except for her hind legs and lower back from the fall. She seems to be in really good spirits and doesn't seem to be in pain but the veterinarian told me that anything could happen at her age. I'm thinking about the cart if she is a good candidate for one. I'll contact you again when I can.

| Comments: : | Thank You!!! This made me laugh in a time of sorrow. My beautiful baby boy went down on 12/31/04. He is at the vet now on steroids. My first report today is that he has not stood yet. I am pushing for surgery and trying franticly to find someone to help me fund it. The wonderful members of my Doxie group have pooled 700 dollars towards his surgery. If he can not have surgery and can not heal on his own I REFUSE to let him go. I will get a cart for him and he will have a happy life. Thank you for the laugh, this was very well narrated and I enjoyed seeing Nyssa HAPPY in her cart.

i lost my bambino on dec. 5, 2001, a red doxie to kidney failure at age 15 years 8 months. he too, had been paralyzed since he was 10-1/2 years old. he never gave up, he continued to dig his grinnies, play with his daughter bertha, and was (is) the love of my life. i never regretted one time i had to pick up his poops or wipe up his pees. it was my privilege. your story brought tears to my eyes. i now have brownie, 2 years old, and no signs of any back trouble & i love him dearly, but i will always miss my "bino" the most. he taught me that even when i helped him to run, he ran..& ran...& ran...., and lived till he died. jackie |

| Comments: : | I am glad to see that Nyssa loves her new wheels. I just ordered a dogmobile for my dog who just recently became paralysed in both her hind legs. The vet said she probably won't be alble to walk again. My dog loved to run and play.
and it broke my heart to see her dragging her back legs trying so hard to play ball. I found the website for the dogmobile and ordered it right away. we haven't received it yet it has only been about a week since we ordered it. But I tell my dog sly not to worry, that by next week she will be playing ball & running around just like she used to . Ginger always managed to get part way out of the cart so the vet took it away. Now she's trying to walk again on her own. Hard work but with water theraphy I think she's progressing. |
