I had decided to throw in the towel about 3 years ago, at the age of 30, because I wasn't where I thought I needed to be with my playing. With two children to support, I gave up my studies (ran out of money) and went back to work full-time (only two terms away from a degree in classical guitar performance). After attenting a concert and auditing a master class last weekend, I was filled with bitter dissapointment, feeling that I had squandered something precious and now its too late. Thanks for the reminder that with music it's never "too late", and only finding 2 hours a day to practice really is ok. I will most likely never finish that degree, nor be famous, nor make any money. But that's OK! Now I play, because I love it, and because it's too painful not to. |

Posseggo la Dragon dal 2007 ed il suono è "maturato" molto. Consiglio ai chitarristi di acquistare una di queste "ciliegine" ... Studio con questa chitarra ed ho tenuto anche dei concerti all'aperto, microfonandola. I am a successful consulting architect who adores his work (therefore it is not really work) - I had been struggling with thew idea of what to do to keep me fully occupied when I eventually retire (or at least slow down) - I read an amazing book by Dr. Norman Doidge called 'The Brain that Changes itself' - about brain plasticity - I have always been interested in lateral thinking and brain training and decided to accept the challenge of learning to play two musical instruments (my 60th birthday present to myself) - the two instruments are the cello and the classical guitar - I had never played as much as a recorder before, but have always loved music - mainly opera and classical (Segovia, Julian Bream and John Williams records were worn out!) I have already had twelve cello lessons with a wonderful local teacher and have purchased a beautiful Italian Cello. The joy that it gives me to play this instrument is beyond words - on my 12th lesson I managed to play a cello duet with my teacher - the smile did not come off my face for days. The classical guitar playing will wait until I have completed some basic 'brain retraining of independence for my fingers' - then the music! I am inspired by the craftsmanship of your guitars and you can rest assured that I will treasure this instrument for the rest of my life! I may not devote my practice sessions to God as recommended to you by the Italian priest, but in my own simple way I will devote my practice sessions to the spirit that lives within the instrument May peace and your God be with you Les |

But Jake (unusually) used a classical guitar for his stuff and one needs a fairly decent instrument to replicate it, even though little or no classical technique is used really. That aside, I AM a classical music lover (piano and clarinet and orchestral involvement) and Barrios is indeed one of my favourites when it comes to listening to others play the guitar well. Your web site is truly amazing and if I won the lottery, I'd be buying up a whole clutch of your magical instruments, simply because they'd look so magnificent to have around the place.

Cuando te refieres a que el toque apoyado es primitivo, Estás afirmando que un Pepe Romero, Angel Romero, Paco Lucia, David Rusell, Manuel Barrueco, Williams, etc. etc también lo son????? pues ellos lo usan donde y cuando la música lo requiere. En relación con los toques creo que la música es la que establece que herramienta o recurso técnico mejor la expresan y no a la inversa, hay que tenerlo todo y usarlo según convenga al estilo musical. Por ejemplo tocar Tarrega tirado no solo es primitivo sino desacertado. ¿el aranjuez tirado?...tampoco sería ni aconcejable ni lógico, cada escuela del sonido en su desarrollo y evolución impuso una forma de ejecución. Por ejemplo, es como si se quisiera tocar hacia la flama de Scriabin con la técnica de dedos del padre Soler, jamás y nunca se podría sacar el sonido requerido, o como si le dijeramos a Placido Domingo que con la técnica del bel canto cantara un tema de Metallica, tampoco es posible porque no sabría rajar la voz y si lo hace se quedaría sin cuerdas vocales a los tres compases. Lo que quiero resaltar es que el recurso no hace la idea ni la expresión, es al revés, la idea es la que se expresa por medio del recurso técnico. Dicho de otro modo "el que, determina el como". En mi visión personal todo hace falta y mientras mas recursos "técnico- mecánicos" seamos capaces de dominar más completo seremos, con esto te quiero decir que no discrimino, hay que dominar toda la gama de toques que se logran dentro del apoyado, y toda la gama de toques que se pueden realizar dentro del tirado, e incluso, la combinación de ambos si los motivos o las frases musicales así lo aconcejan. Aunque te de la impresión de que estamos abordando un asunto técnico en el fondo es filosófico. Si se divorcia la técnica del entorno musical de la cual se desprende y a la cual debe servir, convertimos la técnica en la esencia y a la música en lo secundario, realizamos un enfoque metafísico, sin conexión con el hecho artístico. Si te dijera que mi escuela de medicina es solo aspirina y calmante y no observo los síntomas de los pacientes seguro que pensarías "este médico está loco",en algunos casos como un dolor muscular o de cabeza la aspirina puede funcionar, pero si el dolor de cabeza continúa y no se alivia con aspirina y el señor se muere porque lo que tenía era un tumor operable, mi limitación técnica lo mató. Si en mis recursos como médico hubiera estado el hacerle una radiografía lo hubiera podido operar y salvarlo, lo mismo sucede con tu planteamiento, habrán obras que necesiten la aspirina y otras la radiografía y la operación, o de lo contrario se asesinará a la música. Piensa en esto.......... |

Your part on the fingernail shape is something I struggled with for years until I found my own way of keeping my nails at the correct length for my style of playing. Both my granddaughter and I have been going to weekly hour long lessons for over four years now. | Comments : | i was only 18 and my life was going downhill fast. i had just gotten out of jail for the third time in my life. i had to go to the airport to pick up my aunt. at the airport i heard the most beautiful sound i had ever heard. this was the soft sound of Pepe Romero practicing at the airport. the next day i purchased a classical guitar. i practiced almost all day every day. about a year and a half later i was at my first archaeological dig. i wanted to be an archaeologist. during the dig i got the chance to play in front of people for the first time. every body at the dig was there (300 people). after i played everybody was amazed at the beautiful music i played for them. i have never received so much respect and gratitude in my life. everyone wanted to talk to me, it felt like i was famous. that night i decided to devote my life to the classical guitar. that was only a few months ago. i am getting ready for classical guitar auditions at utsa in February.i have never received a guitar lesson. i would love to join your sight but i just cant afford it. |

I cannot take my eyes off your gallery of guitars. I intend to buy one in the future after I have saved for it. I am not a professional classical guitarist and I learned to play while I was in a seminary studying for the priesthood under the tutelage of a spanish jesuit which probably explains my fascination with the works of J.S. Bach. Even then, in a poor country like the philippines, the best guitar we can afford then was a yamaha classical guitar which I cannot even afford to buy for myself. I acquired my first yamaha classical guitar several years later after I had left the seminary and while I was teaching philosophy in a jesuit university. I still have it and still play with it. I am even teaching my children to play classical guitar with it. Hopefully in another year or so, I will have enough money to order from you. |

Sono nato nel 1963, sono un chitarrista professionista e tuttora sono innamorato della musica e della chitarra dopo quasi 35 anni... Le sue parole sono di una persona esperta, saggia e modesta, che ha avuto molte esperienze e ne ha fatto tesoro... si intuisce che lei è un uomo che ama la vita...mi ricorda per la chiarezza di certe idee un mio amico ottimo chitarrista che si è ritirato in campagna e sta preparando un suo sito. Grazie per il suo incoraggiamnento a tutti...per il suo entusiasmo e coraggio di dire anche verità "scomode" come quella sul costo delle chitarre artigianali. I think that the addition of the "Inside the Bellucci Studio" is the best that I have ever seen. I have seen similar attempts on other websites, but typically they only show a couple of pictures of the workshop. However, in your case, you have taken it to a new level and provide the reader with a detailed description and illustration of every key step involved in guitar making. I simply love the narrative that is provided for the construction of the guitar and the associated photographs that depict the construction activities that occur during the building of the guitar.
